Weekend Debate

If Bournemouth scored from every opportunity they could have had 5 or 6 goals but that rarely happens. They were clinical in front of goal but we were better. For most matches this season we just don't convert chances to goals but we did yesterday and we got three points. You NEED to score goals to win games. I feel we've been unlucky a few games but I felt we were a little fortunate yesterday to only go in a goal down at half time.

You take your chances, you win games.

genius that he was he never worked out that eventually someone had to stop that cb who’d then pass the ball to one of those talented midfielders or forwards. <laugh>
Yes but the point was by the time they do that the midfielder’s are marked and in a tight area where they are more restricted to use the ball.

I think the entire squad is behind Marsch, Rodders included. He may have acted like a petulant child after being substituted, but the fact he's already netted seven times this season shows he is in the right frame of mind.

Did the kids save him - quite the opposite. He has saved the kids. Under Bielsa, even with the injuries we had, youth barely got a look in. It would have been the likes of Tyler Roberts and Klich coming off the bench with Summerville given the odd minute here and there.

Bielsa's rapport with the club and fanbase was so great, there would ignore how badly we played, and how were were being smashed every week.
oh so very true

Matt how badly we played last season under Bielsa……. But then you know the reason for that don’t you. Plus you ignore the 3 previous seasons of brilliant football where only the top 3 teams could counter Bielsa’s tactics which is why everyone wanted to be a Leeds fan and we reached 9th in the prem table. So please stop shaping facts to suit your viewpoint mate.

Vile v scum today.........much as it is ingrained to detest the scumsters, coming up fast on the rails are the holte Ender's especially with the utter cretin agbon-balbore and his I hate Leeds rhetorical rants...... rearrange this gobshite...tnuc <grr>

He just tries to be controversial to generate site traffic (it’s good for his commission)

Two season's actually. We were beaten to second place by Sheffield Utd in 18/19, even though we spent massively on loans etc. 19/20 was a great season (even though we spent massively). 20/21 was a great season, but only mirrored what Sheff U had done the previous year, and things fell apart in 21/22.

I'm sorry but Bielsa was overrated. Yes, he got him squad the fittest in the League, but by doing so shortened their career. I truly believe some over hype Bielsa because of his rapport with the fans.

Yet we finished 9th when only the top 3 could outplay us.. Eh?

Spent massively? We had Harrison on loan who played, Izzy Brown and Lewis Baker who hardly featured?

We sold Vieira and with the cash brought Bamford but remember the season before we’d sold Chris Wood and not replaced him

For a Championship club to take Brown, Baker, Harrison, Blackman. That's 6m already.

Wood was before Bielsa's tenure. Bamford was Orta's signature.

Anyone who was at the game knows an xg of 1.5ish for Bournemouth is absolute nonsense. They were all over us 1st half, hence the booing from the Kop and the main reason for the disatisfaction was the system employed by Marsche as it gives an advantage to less talented opponents.

So it's a consensus of opinion milky and not just mine <ok>

I doubt you asked the baying masses what they though Bournemouth’s xg was jammy <laugh> but we were absolute dog in the first half. They were much the better side, they had several good chances and we were all over the place. Not seen anyone dispute that - Even us mere mortals forced to watch on tv.

However, Fans often assume that a chance means a team should have scored. They almost universally overstate the likelihood of converting opportunities - for and against.

There are variations between the different xg algorithms but they use similar concepts. Some look at something in the region of 50,000 chances in the top European leagues, categorise them and assess how many were converted.

If Bournemouth’s players were of average efficiency. They’d score 1 or 2 goals on average from the chances created in that game and we'd score 2 or 3 (helped by the penalty obviously)

Call it bollox all you like but people in the game use these stats all the time to assess fairness/likeliness of a result happening, how well a team is functioning at creating and stopping chances.

Xg doesn’t replace the eye test, nothing does that. All of us with eyes can see we were rank in the first half. Nor does it tell you whether a side sat on a lead and stopped trying to score etc. But it does a decent job of assessing how good the chances created were. Their best chance was actually missed by kiefer moore... but they took some more difficult ones - that strikers on average would miss more than they score from.
