Thats probably why they've only lost 2 competitive fixtures there out of 65.

That and the fact that the CONCACAF pool of teams is gash.

still though, england have a big chance of facing mexico in the last 16 at mexico city
the altitude is a big deal imo.

almost double ben nevis

english players would struggle at this altitude
its a genuine disadvantage for england

also south africa 2 sent off

SA have looked completely incapable of passing when they get within 30 yards of goal, to the point where you wonder how they could be so bad

I mean I wasn't expecting anything from them in terms of actually being able to match Mexico, but it doesn't look good for the likes of Haiti, Curacao or Uzbekistan later in the tournament because I'm pretty sure SA would beat all three of those teams pretty comfortably.

thats the quality im afraid mate
south africas first wc since 2010 when they hosted it..

they have a very very poor team really

only 3 or 4 south african players play outside of the south african league

its a world cup with 32 teams going through the group stage..

I think North Korea put up more of a fight when they qualified for the World Cup than South Africa did tonight.

It’s a cliche to say ‘they played like a Sunday league team’ when a team plays ****e but South Africa genuinely did play like that. It was weird. It looked like Soccer Aid celebs against professionals. They couldn’t pass, their first touch was shocking and their decisions were just bizarre.

Expanding the competition to 48 teams is the wrong move. I don’t think ‘small’ countries deserve a helping hand to give them a chance to qualify for a World Cup. I say ‘small’ but India and China both have over a billion people each and they’re two of the worst nations on the planet when it comes to football (couldn’t even qualify for an expanded competition). However, countries like Bosnia and Croatia have a few million people and are in the competition on merit.

i agree
and scotland topped a group with denmark and greece so fully deserve to qualify
its actually harder for european teams to qualify

but rest of the world its easier
hence why we have teams like

south africa
uzbekistan
iraq
qatar
etc etc

id say haiti but... let me answer that lunchtime sunday

ive said it many times but 32 teams making it out of the group stage is really silly
