Do people realise how important a manager is to the club? without the right man in charge nothing works, it doesn’t matter how good our players are, how great our fans are or how great coaches are, having the wrong man in charge will destroy the team, break up this squad and cause real issues when now more then ever we need stability, not some idiot with an ego that is highly immature and has a chip on his shoulder.

You all try and predict how good a manager is by listing points from their "success" abroad, who gives a **** how successful they were abroad? its irrelevant to if they can settle in this league and manage an english team to success, it doesn't matter if they are great tacticans, whats more important is being able to build a team, create unity and understand the english game.

There are numerous examples of foreign managers coming in and doing well. Similarly there are numerous examples of british managers doing very badly.

Listen, i'm not generlising foriegn managers, some of the best managers in this country have been from abroad, thats not my point.

My point is in regards to a specific personality, a specific type of foreign manager, unless you understand how to read a situation fully and see someones personality you won't get it.

You can tell people like Ramos, AVB just can't settle in this league, there is something in their nature, the way they deal with the english games that shows they can't be a success.

Of course thats my opinion but the way some of you are suggesting avb could be a success is all about his success abroad and you failing to grasp why he got the sack at chelsea.

Nope, i'm not failing to grasp anything and i do get it. That still doesn't mean i agree with you though. Any judgements on how he may do are just guesses. You can say he WILL fail til you are blue in the face, you may be proven right, but until then its just your opinion the same as others are allowed to have the opinion that it might work.

Out of choice i probably would have stuck with Harry although i was definitely not a big fan of his big ol' gob. BUT, that is done now so we might as well debate who is coming in.

Out of the "contenders" (which i'm classing as AVB, Moyes and Martinez) AVB would probably be my 3rd choice.

I actually think it might be someone out of the blue. Someone mentioned Garcia earlier. He was linked earlier in the season when Hazard started mentioning us and there were thoughts of a double swoop. I wonder if those rumours were maybe half true?

Anyhow, going back to your points there, who knows about Garcia, in reality who knows what Levy is thinking? he could well have learnt from the Ramos, Santini and DOF...BUT I actually believe he favours the continental approach and has this vision of a dof, working with a fresh exciting young manager like they do abroad.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have a man manager, someone that can relate to the players and get them on their side and the danger is by going abroad for one of these "names" we don't fully understand how they will settle in the english game so why take such a huge risk when we have one of the best squads of the last 30 years?

Some may say, if the risk pays off then it will be worth it, yet for the risk to pay off we need to find the new mourinho or dare i say it wenger as otherwise whats going to happen? we hire some coach to doesn't do as well as arry but works with a dof? is it all worth it?

I'm just guessing here, but this is exactly what I think Levy is going for.
He's got enough practice and manager hiring and firing over the years and i think he's been learning what works and what doesn't. He's picked 2 good'uns (Jol and Redknapp) recently, lets all forget Ramos, which is a better strike rate than what we usually have over the last 20 years.

Martinez with a DoF could work nicely, but reports say he rejected Liverpool because he didn't want to work in their "system"

Cmon Spurlock......You could see that Unity Chelsea had when we won the CL and when we won the double in 2010 under Carlo.
Yes we have a total Dick for a captain! And Drogba could go to ground more often than he should have, but the reason you are saying chelsea have no unity and are dicks is because you hate them and nothing more.
If anything, the dressing room unity being too strong is what killed AVB's chances of successfully managing us. He tried to break that unity buy leaving out certain players and player power won over! (which isnt exactly great either I know, I think our senior players sometimes exert too much influence over the running of things)

No he's not! Though I really need to find out more about AVB, I like the idea. He tried and failed to make Chelsea play more attractively. I don't see that as points against him. Before that he won a cup at Porto without much to work with. He'll be dying to repair his reputation. Why not?

I like the idea of AVB. I'm worried about his man managements skills or lack of them (not to mention his stupid stunts at Chelsea), but the fact that he was very successful playing the right way at Porto with limited resources, and will be desperate to repair his reputation, outweighs that. The two choices I'd like more aren't available: Bilic and Bielsa. I'm not in favor of Moyes, and would like to see someone young, as part of a long term plan for the future.

possibly.....truthfully Drogs..i havent got a clue as to who will be good for us..either someone is too young and arrogant(AVB)...too rigid and cant handle a club with big players(Moyes)...too old(Capello)...already employed(Ancelotti) just too hyped up (Martinez) so i havent got any idea how people are deciding that one is better than the other for a fact.......your club got great success with a man who was not good enough for bloody WBA...now you tell me if there is any logic in that...because there isnt when you analyse it...however what was to follow threw all logic out of the window..so im just trying to give everyone some kind of positive slant..ibefore AVB came up i was comfortable with the idea of Moyes....someone today mentioned Bilic again even though he already has a new job..and i said a few things about Bilic according to me..so im clueless but all im doing is trying to be positive because one thing is for sure no matter who we get..im not going to vilify them before a ball has been kicked and i will back them because i know it wont be easy for them.

Yep I know what you're saying, you can never truthfully tell who is going to succeed and who isn't, I mean if you told me Robbie was going to take over and we'd win the Champs League and FA Cup back in January I'd have pissed myself, but to be fair Robbie was only meant to be temporary so the pressure was off, I think the pressure will be on AVB if he were to join due to his last term in charge and the fact that he has to better Harry.

Moyes would be brilliant for you lot, it'd be very interesting to see what he could do with a bit of cash at his fingertips!

What always got me about Villas-Boas is the way he clearly choreographed his entire routine down on the touchline. I know that, more and more, managers are judged by showing "they care" with their utterly ludicrous balletics on the touchline, but it looks so utterly ridiculous and implies he;s thinking of himself instead of the eleven players who are playing a game of football in front of him.

I wouldn't judge him on his time at Chelsea, as it seemed obvious to me that he was given a task to achieve and then not backed when he tried to do so.
The older players in the dressing room had too much power and they used it to bring in their own man, essentially.
It's worked out well for them, in the short term.

Hard to judge him on his time with Porto either, though.
His record there was excellent (over 88% win record), but you'd expect it to be.

The only way that I can see this as a possible appointment is if he's being brought in as part of a management team and the DOF role is making a comeback.
Our squad wouldn't pose the same problems that he had with Chelsea's, as we don't have a bunch of players that are his age and we're set up to play in his style already, but he wouldn't fill me with confidence.
I think that it might be a step back to try to take two forward, but I'm not convinced that we'd show the patience needed or that the current players would be appeased by installing him.

All he had to do was MANAGE the older players for one season and then sell the ones he didn't want once they'd cleared off on holiday around about now.

Instead he went in there and told them they were all ****s, wearing his "Roman Loves Me" badge as proof of his assertions, and it backfired massively as they didn't believe in him and didn't play for him...results go bad, Roman hits the button.

He will hopefully have learnt from it given that he is young, and he does have a good vision for the style of football he wants to play which may well suit you tbh, but to walk into a team full of seasoned players as the bloke who used to hand out the dvd's before the opposition analysis sessions, and behave like that is just plain ****ing stupid.

'Arry may be gobshite at times, but how often do SAF, Wenger, Mourinho speak their mind and frustrate their chairmen when it suits them? Spurs may come to realise how precious a manager is if he can have your team competing with the big boys in the way you did this season.

Mourinho got sacked for mouthing off, and didn't seem to be a massive loss to Chelsea - they didn't exactly tumble down the league and stop winning things, did they? Similarly, Derby won the league a couple of years after Clough left, and that relationship was strained due to his habit of mouthing off to the press and undermining the chairman at regular intervals.
