I’ve seen explanations many times as to why Hull fans have ill feelings to Leeds fans in Hull but I can’t think of any other set of fans who take so much umbrage. If there was a Hull City fan living in London would he not be a true fan?

Surely the majority of fans start off as kid glory hunters? Go to any school around here (Northampton) and ask a group of 6-7 year olds who do they support and it will be Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea and still probably a lot of Man U. The ‘fashionable’ teams at present. If you went around schools in Hull now and asked the same age group who do they support I bet there would be many who said the same 3-4 teams. Maybe not if their dad was a Hull supporter but not every set of parents are into football.

As those kids grow older, they’ll buy a few shirts, they’ll go to a few games, they’ll put a few quid into the club they support, I don’t get why it’s so important to have a localised fan base rather than spread out?

You say most are in their early 50s 60s so they were kids when they started supporting Leeds and they did so probably because Leeds were the nearest fashionable team at the time? Back then we didn’t have Sky, it was match of the day if lucky, the FA cup carried tons of weight, you relied on local papers for snippets.

I just find it strange to hate another fan so much because of a decision they made as a kid and not judge them on being a person instead of the team they support

Hull is the most isolated city in Yorkshire with only rural support across East Yorkshire making us much more like the big NE clubs but without the legacy of historical glory they have, therefore resentment of local glory seekers is far more fierce here. We don't fear lower league football but do fear losing the local support we have built back up since 2002 to top 4 clubs again, which I doubt Leeds will become again even if you do go up.

leeds even at their peak in the early 70s were dour, dirty, sly, unimaginative with an undercurrent of illegality

If you had to be a glory hunter back then, why choose this lot when you could have the charisma of MUFC, the Kop & Shankly of LFC, the glamour of CFC

It's like if you had to pick a fantasy woman, you opted for Janice Long over Raquel Welch and Brigit Bardot cos she was relatively local

I want Northampton to do well, I watch their results I’ve been to watch them play. If I was getting into football now for the first time as an adult I’d support Northampton but they’re my second team. When I was a kid (5-8) and my older cousins and mates at school supported Leeds, I probably just said I did too. My cousin gave me some wall pennants and a scarf, I loved them at the time and still have them in my loft.

I’d collect the football cards and stickers, I’d hear Leeds had won and as a kid in the 70s you we’re just taught to want to win. My father wasn’t into football despite his cousin playing for Liverpool (under Shankly) and England (something I only found out in my twenties) so why would would any youngster pick a team to support that was not fashionable.

Like I said, it’s the choice many made as a kid, when you fall in love with something or a team it’s hard to let go.

Thank you.. If our owner wants to cash in and if the QSI group are really interested in buying Leeds then top 4 could be possible. That’s a few too many ifs though so taking it as things stand I totally agree, it will be about how long we can last in the PL. Sky TV big money investors and agents have killed the game somewhat, yes hypocritical of me as I’d jump at the chance of being brought by the QSI group and I know that divides opinion.
