bony and michu will click soon and when they do we will like ivor says clime the table. there are teams at the top in a false position and i believe we are in a false position also. Our home form has not been what it should have and we should at the very least be 4-5 points further ahead..
Pointless trying to compare Corny, we have no idea if he will do the job in our setup. I thought Bony looked like he could be dangerous when he played against us, will be interesting if he is first choice to see how he does with all that game time, can he last the 90 minutes?
He lasted 90 minutes with no problem in Holland and got 31 goals in 30 games. He won't do that for us but I'm hoping he'll get a few.
I'm sure he will Ivor, I only seen him against us so it isn't easy to give opinions, you boys should know how well your own players are doing. In this league, a player who can give a bit of magic is a precious thing we all long for.
Thanks for joining in Max. Graham - I didn't include because he is on loan at Hull. When I wrote this I was just thinking of strikers signed this summer....I excluded Man City, Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool signings as I regard those clubs as being in their own league financially. Am only interested in the clubs we can compete with signings on and who got the best deal this summer.... Of course we won't know that until the end of the season and I fully intend to update the opening post monthly so we can all discuss how things are going throughout the season. Would be good if fans of other clubs continued to contribute
Included Odemwingie because Swansea were considering signing him as a second striker this summer...interesting comparison for us would be to see his stats for games played up front. Would you be able to put something together on here?
That's a fair point! Don't want this thread to be all about stats...they never tell the full story do they? Just help to understand the overall picture. Opinions about someone's overall game and when they are able to perform, and against who, is just as valid. Of course, even at the end of the season we're never going to all agree on who got the best deal.
Out of all of those, Bony is the best player for me, and a really good signing. By the end of the year he should have risen to the top, injuries notwithstanding. Osvaldo seems awful!
Even though being injured is neither their fault or a reflection of their ability it is still a factor in the value of the transfer. e.g. Could West Ham have spent the £15m on Carroll more wisely given he spent most of last season injured and turned up this summer injured (I think..)? If they go down having had to play for a draw in 50% of their games this season I would argue yes...even though I think he's a better footballer than most give him credit for and his injury is not his fault.
Can't you read? The point is to compare strikers signed this summer by us and our competitors and assess whether we have got our money's worth. I'll worry about whatever I ****ing feel like worrying about thanks. Re: Cornelius see the Carroll example above
That's a fair point actually. It may be unfair to take into account players who've been crocked but you can still factor it in when it comes to current value for money even though that will probably change over time.
Could also add Soldado, Aspas and Negredo as they were players we were linked with who have struggled too.
Surely Negrado is starting to look the real deal. Aspas looks terrible he's this years Borini for Liverpool. Soldado has knocked in a few pens to hide the fact it's not really happening. I thought his movement at our place was top top class but I'm not sure he wants to play on his own up top. He also needs the ball got into the box I know all strikers do but he's a real fox in the box type. Plenty of Spurs watchers have been bemoaning their slow laboured build up I think they need to get the ball to him in the box quicker (with quality) and he'll finish the chances. As Terror says though those sides are in a different league to the mere mortals listed in the OP. Sorry just read you say you were linked. Only Aspas was a realistic target and it looks like you dodged a bullet there!
Honestly reckon he's good enough Phil, did well in the championship but hasn't looked a PL striker despite having the chance.
once again you have proved to be spot on in weeding out the stealth wums, it was interesting to read taffs comments on this thread when he was one of those having a gloat about a player who has scored goals for us since his first day
Did you see his goal for Sunderland the other week? What a goal, shame though that he's at Sunderland, complete wast of talent for him to be there!........
Sprucie - nothing "stealth" about what I've said in the past about Bony - I was open about it and still think the jury's out, especially for £12M. Still early, but how many goals did he score yesterday, and how good do you think he played against a basically crap defence for a Premier club? Are you happy with his current play, and do you really think he'll get better (not "wishful" think he'll get better). He looks slow and overweight to me, something that a number of your own colleagues have commented on. No agenda from me on this one, we've got an unproven £8M striker ourselves who could turn out to be a turkey (or not as the case may be) - all depends on whether his injury hasn't masked his inability at this level. Bony hasn't had the same excuse.
