Even after Matt Frei had said that had been put before court and found to be false (see above), she just wittered off 'That's what you say, but this story won't go away, and many more examples of fraud;' Just keep repeating and believing, repeating and believing. How do you heal and reconcile with these zealots?

How do you reconcile and heal? Through education - and not these morons but the next generation. A change/addition to the national curriculum which educates children on understanding all forms of extremism and what they look like, racial prejudice, the use of social media, how to determine facts from propoganda and outright lies. Some of which the U.K has at least tried to do over the past decade. The kids in America would also benefit from learning more about the wider world than learning about it from american news channels.

Iirc the US spends the most per capita on their education system but is way down the list as a nation in terms of attainment in core subjects such as English, maths and science. And when you dig deeper the lowest attainment tend to be the southern and mid-west States. Go figure! Either way the state of the country suggests the education system is failing to educate!

Yeah that’s gone well.

Just not giving fascists a platform is the starting point like. Only they’ve made it into the mainstream again since the crash, same as they did in the 1930’s. Populism always thrives in times of economic hardship.

Education isn’t the key imo as there’s always going to be a decent percentage of thick ****s, it is what it is. Also, there’s plenty of well educated people who’ve bought the snake oil of QANON and the like. See HIAG for details.

I remember we sort of had this discussion on racism on our board a few years back. The general consensus was that when the older generation died out...

I saw lots of 20 and 30 somethings in that mob last week. Indeed, as I was saying here back in November, I had this discussion with one of train drivers about Dominion machines, and he is in his late 20's. Generation X believes ****ing anything they read on the net, imo. That;s why they all - and Trump himself - need locking up, preferably in Camp Gitmo. Execute serving and reservist military - including Flynn himself. Not arsed about martyrs. The argument the Republicans are putting forward is as if the defending counsel in the Nuremburg trials had said 'Let them all go - Europe needs to heal'. Some times you've got to do what you've got to do.

I'm sure Kustard had every chance of a fair and decent education. As you say, some are simply too thick, and others will just use their education to scour the web to find others who support their visceral hatreds.

The ring leaders may be educated but the masses who follow are clearly thick fckers who don't have the capacity for reason or abstract thought. Maybe not even just basic literacy by the looks of it.

Education in terms of core subjects on its own isn't enough either. What the UK is doing and from what I've seen works is incorporating contentious topics that genuinely questions children's misconceptions, even subtle ones. On topics such as terrorism, racism, homophobia, anti-semitism, islamophobia, and the use of social media. We may not see the benefits for 5-10 years but I think we're already beginning to see it from those in their late teens and early 20's.

Reconciling and preventing a repeat of what's happened in America will take time and a long-term process imo and for it to change educating the next generation will be pivotal.

That's kind of the point I'm making. If you don't learn from history the next generation is doomed to repeat them. The idea the older generation will die out and the next will be better is naive on its own.

As for the Republicans defending them. I can't believe the bitch who tweeted Pelosi's location in the Capitol on the day of the attack or egged them on by tweeting about the date of the American revolution, was allowed to speak in congress today. She should be on charges herself.

Education or attempting to educate can’t do any harm, but people swallowing bullshit has always happened it’s just become far easier to spoon feed them it in the age of the net.
