Because Mercedes' slave labour was 80 years ago. It's a time from which they do not identify, do not celebrate and have tried to move on from. Nothing about Mercedes today reflects Mercedes during that time. Just in the same way Germany has moved on to a (more than) respectable country.[/QUOTE]
Because Mercedes' slave labour was 80 years ago. .. which makes it worse because most of EUROPE and many other countries [ USA] worldwide had already condemned slavery years before
It's a time from which they do not identify, do not celebrate and have tried to move on from. WE DO NOT IDENTIFY WITH IT OR CELEBRATE IT and have moved on from it and a reminder of US moving on from it is the fabric they wish to make disappear … if you see a reminder say a statue you have 3 feelings
.....who is that???? ................ OR ….thank god those days are over i hope I never become involved with that " ****** again" OR or a sense of guilt and wish it wasn't there … nothing wrong with that feeling a lot of people experience it …. but not an excuse for vandalism ….
Mercedes did things that they are not proud of, and they do not celebrate it. Having a statue of a slave trader is celebrating that man
…. so Mercedes has gotten rid of all their heir looms.. pictures and busts of the founders early models of their cars etc etc etc …. REALLY!!! do not ever visit their factory! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE enlighten us when the celebratory factor of a slave trader took place … In his 55 years or so of being a merchant and entrepreneur he had less than 12 years as "a slave trader" and was only involved if you read the books as a member of the Royal Africa Company [ probably 10 years ] His s"fleet" traded not just slaves but many many other things that helped the world become a smaller place and expand their economies …
the world is renowned for TAKING ON BOARD THE NEGATIVES OF LIFE just read the media ………….
