Most fans of other L1 teams would expect us to be top half minimum, even if we hadn't splashed the cash on a new team, as realistically, we are one of the biggest teams in this league, with only the 2 Sheffield teams possibly bigger than us in terms of finances and fanbase, and both of them on paper look a lot weaker than us.

2 years ago, we were pipped for automatic by a Norwich team that got 2 promotions on the spin and a Leeds team that beat Man U in the Cup, I don't see the same level of quality this season.

Totally agree, I struggle to see another side in the league who has significantly improved their squad. Not surprised 442 predicted us to slide, bear in mind we've got worse in every season in the past 6? 7? Fairly shocking stat. Just can't wait for us to prove everyone wrong, 2 league wins and a nice 4-3 home defeat to Reading so we can get out of our traditional nemesis cup with some dignity would suit me fine.

what do u mean u were pipped u got relegated that season
No, that was the 3 seasons ago, the first season at L1 level we finished 4th from memory, with Norwich and Leeds getting automatic, and Millwall beating Swindon in the playoff final. Swindon were that season's surprise package, a bit like Bournemouth last season.

This a blog by a Wednesday fan, the summary on Charlton seems fair
Prediction: Given their transfer activity, they will certainly be challenging for promotion. Play-offs a minimum.

Not long now boys. Two more days at the madhouse we call work and then we are able watch the brand spanking new Charlton team! I can't wait.

Regardless of what we are predicted to do this season. Im just hoping for a good result come saturday, then build from there. In a ideal world a start like our first season in L1 would not go a miss but in hope that it lasts a bit longer and when we do hit a bad patch it no more than a hiccup!

Funny guy, considering your lot struggled against a League One team and let in three goals against them (one of which in the first few minutes) [one week away from the season starting] you haven't got much to boast or laugh about <ok> Wouldn't be suprised to see you in a relegation battle following such a shocking performance. Quality signings by the way...Racon and Henderson <yikes>

But you missed the most salient point ....... we got one more goal than you and until your team learns how to do that - your'e gonna struggle! to play badly and win is half the battle - just think yourself lucky we took it easy on you!

Underdog is a title I don't quite mind Charlton having this season. Since relegation from the Premiership we have always been the favorites to do this that and the other, while other teams have gone about their business quietly and reaped the rewards so to speak.

Look at Bournemouth last season, no one gave them a chance to even hit play-offs last season and if they did I certainly didn't, where as we were again in contention for automatic promotion from the off. To be able to let Chris Powell to get on with it, will I think be better for the team. But then I am no expert.

Here's to a great start to the season and hoping the boys get us back to where we belong!

UP THE ADDICKS!

How can a 'big' club like Charlton ever be underdogs! <cheers>

FourFourTwo must start writing the next season's predictions as soon as the season before finishes. They are so far off the pace. A good magazine, not as good as WSC, but their pre-season preview is useless.

A few years ago they produced a report, with the help of Colemans, to suggest what clubs had the best catering. Not surprisingly, Norwich came top (Colemans!) with Cambridge in second. Apparently Norwich's meat pies were the tops. I had one the day we beat them 4-0 away and Super Clive had just joined up. Where did they source their meat from? An earwig farm? Yuck.
