yer cant understand y some great signings compared to all the clubs like preston and sheffields yet seem to be given a greater chance, however hudds seem to be quiet a threat this season
When we came down from the Prem we were favs to go back up and when we dropped into L1 we were again favs to bounce back....so the whoodooo is on Weds this year. I agree that our squad has more quality and as soon as the first ball is kicked it will seem like our new team are not as unfamiliar with each other as the pundits suggest. I reckon an injury free BWP will get 20+ goals this year, Hayes will weigh in with at least 15 and I reckon Benno will out do them both and optimistically smash Ralph Allens record
Not sure it matters what FourFourTwo, journos and the bookies say now. They're usually wrong. Best to wait for at least 10 matches, see how the season stands at that stage, and who are the main contenders Bookies' favourites last year were I think South Coast Club, Wendies and Terriers. Plymouth were probably up there too... Two of those are still in this division, one in the division below.
Underdog is a title I don't quite mind Charlton having this season. Since relegation from the Premiership we have always been the favorites to do this that and the other, while other teams have gone about their business quietly and reaped the rewards so to speak. Look at Bournemouth last season, no one gave them a chance to even hit play-offs last season and if they did I certainly didn't, where as we were again in contention for automatic promotion from the off. To be able to let Chris Powell to get on with it, will I think be better for the team. But then I am no expert. Here's to a great start to the season and hoping the boys get us back to where we belong! UP THE ADDICKS!
If 442 had you down to finish 18th then i'm sure whoever done that knows absolutely nothing about football
Thanks to both our visitors for their optimistic predictions. As far as I'm concerned, the more teams that underestimate us this season, the better - they'll simply get turned over for their arrogance. No-one has a right, either by dint of history or spending power, to get out of this division - the teams that play the quality football will be the ones that progress and I firmly believe that will include Charlton Athletic.
some of the bigger teams will be in for a shock cos they expect us to roll over and let them take the 3 points
Most fans of other L1 teams would expect us to be top half minimum, even if we hadn't splashed the cash on a new team, as realistically, we are one of the biggest teams in this league, with only the 2 Sheffield teams possibly bigger than us in terms of finances and fanbase, and both of them on paper look a lot weaker than us. 2 years ago, we were pipped for automatic by a Norwich team that got 2 promotions on the spin and a Leeds team that beat Man U in the Cup, I don't see the same level of quality this season.
