They've been linked with Draxler amongst others. Not much time for them to unsettle any bigger names and in all honesty that isn't what they're about either. Like us, their squad is a lovely blend of developed talent (or "Bayern fodder") and mid-range signings who push on to become world class (or "Bayern fodder"). They've also been linked with Malcolm of Bordeaux (that's the footballer, not the medieval crusader), which would be a classic Dortmund signing. Young promising winger who they hope will develop as quickly as Dembele did. Either way, losing a player who contributed 10 goals and 21 assists is going to be a massive blow and will also ruin the deadly partnership Aubameyang was thoroughly enjoying.
Shame. Maybe they'll replace him with Dembele? No, not that one, the other one. please log in to view this image
Would it be too much for Juve to chuck in a bid for Aubameyang? Every time we express an interest in a player, it's suggested that they're in for him as well. They and Chelsea **** me right off. Maybe we should bid for Aubameyang? That should do it.
Juve are just like West Ham...apart from they have history, credibility, title-winning pedigree, a good chance of winning domestic and European trophies at any point in the next decade, owners who aren't odious ****wits and a stadium that the club paid for.
There was a question mentioned on TalkShite this morning about when Ireland achieved their highest FIFA rankings. Oh hang on, this is a UEFA thread... anyway hope you don't mind me mentioning that it turned out to be 1993. OK, so they got to the quarter finals of the World Cup in 1990, but then in 1992 they didn't qualify for the Euros at all... so obviously their highest ranking would be in 1993! Doh!
Republic of Ireland national football team FIFA ranking Current 29 (10 August 2017) Highest 6 (August 1993) Lowest 70 (June–July 2014)
Lamela and Janssen excluded from the CL squad. Understandable for Lamela if he ain't fit for group games but that's a real kick in the nuts for Janssen, been a **** couple of days for him to say the least what with being demoted to third choice and now left out of the squad. Think a move to Turkey may sound more appealing to him now.
Don't the group games finish in like February time though? Says a lot about when we think he'll be back playing. As for Janssen, it's not surprising. Being able to hold the ball up well isn't going to be enough of an option for us in the CL. His spell at Spurs is over.
http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2018/clubs/club=1652/squad/index.html Foyth over Janssen ?? Really ?? How badly are Spurs doing on UEFA non-HG rules that Lamela could not be named regardless of injury ??
It wouldn't surprise me if the plan is to swap Lamela in for GKN further down the line ...if there is a "further down the line" to swap him in, obviously.
There are 25 places. 8 need to be home grown. Of that 8, 4 need to be club trained. http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2277105.html I think that we've got 5 home grown (Kane, Rose, Davies, Alli, Trippier) and 2 club trained (Kane, Rose), so we're limited to 22. I've got no idea why we've named 21.
There's a 50/50 chance that we'll be content to sack off the Europa League again, so why bother changing the squad for that?
And the implicit statement for Lamela is that he will not be fully squad-ready until mid-December at the earliest.
He's supposed to be back in October, but his fitness will be ****e, so it's got to be at least another month. Probably more. It's an opportunity for Edwards to force himself into the picture, I guess.
Some interesting money stuff from UEFA land (based on last season) : If you win all your EL group games, and get all the way to the final, UEFA will pay you 700K more than what you get for just reaching the CL group stage. I hope somebody doesn't tell Kroenke this ...
Nah think they're done before Christmas ain't they? But there's a break until the knock out legs. As much as I tried telling myself Janssen should get another shot, it was inevitable his time was up. One season is harsh to drop a player on but he showed very, very little to suggest he was about to turn a corner and show his potential. To actually look a poorer striker than Soldado takes some but unfortunately he done just that.
