whats being changed
the left only lane can now go straight ahead????
The change is that the larger and more powerful you are on the road, the greater your personal responsibility to ensure the safety of others.

I don't know that junction specifically but unless cyclists were banned from going ahead and HAD to turn left (unlikely), the cyclists did nothing wrong.

For clarity, even if the cyclist was in the right, it was very unwise of him to take that line next to an HGV.

and there was me thinking that even cyclists had to follow the highway code

Hmm, as much as it pains me to say it, I think the HGV is probably in the right here as far as the law goes.

As far as common sense goes, and as a keen cyclist, that would never happen to me as I would have waited either behind him or far enough in front to catch his eye to let him know I'm there.

BUT, under the new rules of the Highway Code soon to be implemented, the HGV driver would be in the wrong.

It's already being used by Police and insurers, when turning left at any junction you have to check your nearside mirror and if a suicidal lycra lout is coming up the inside, whether you indicate or not, you will be blamed if there is a collision.

Two years ago I was approaching Waterloo Bridge by the IMAX roundabout, a cyclist ahead of me was labouring up the slight incline so I moved to the right to go past him, without him indicating he moved to his right just as I was passing him and he clipped the back of my car. I believe the insurers paid out a claim and the police were 'investigating'. I've heard nothing since but one of the insurers I spoke to said unless you can prove recklessness by the cyclist they always blame the driver, that's what the new law will be...

I'm sorry to hear of your experience.

I follow the rules of the road on my bike and avoid crazy moves like that.

A bit of courtesy both ways goes a long way.

...@RepLizCheney talks and seems so much like her father.
I wonder if she’s ever accidentally shot a good friend of hers in the face.
