I’m probably doing what many others are doing right now and planning our next trip. s as in previous years I’m seeking advice from people in the know.

In late September we are heading off to Canada Eastern side for a few weeks and then dropping down into New England for the last couple of weeks.
So far as a rough agenda, we are planning to fly into Quebec then move onto Montréal before getting the train down to Albany. Driving to Boston and around that area before ending up in New York where we will get a flight home.

Where should we be looking to visit in those areas, especially considering it’s Autumn ( the fall )..... wha5 areas should we be looking to stay in when in those major cities. There is still a lot of meat to put on the bones, hence asking the real experts again before we book anything more than the flights which I booked this weekend.
 
If you are in the Niagara Falls area visit Niagara-on-the-Lake, its a town about 10-12 miles north of the Falls, on the Niagara River. NotL is on the Canadian side, across the river is Lewiston in the USA. You should be able to cross into the States using one of the three bridges, if you wish, but ensure you have your passports with you.
My uncle lives in Niagara on the Lake. It is a great town. Pricey but nice. Visit the Angel Inn which was an ex British post back in the day and one of the oldest pubs in Canada. The weather should be just right in late September. I've been on at least 12 occasions at this time. Not too hot not too chilly.
The drive along the river from the falls to the town is GREAT...Plus there are loads of winery's along the way!!! The view from the bandstand across the Ontario Lake to the skyscrapers in Toronto 30 miles in the distance is great (on a clear day)

Boston has a very European feel to it. I wouldn't say it is my most fav city to visit in the USA, but it okay. Boston Common is worth a visit.
NYC is NYC. I know the city fairly well. There are loads of places to see. Too numerous to mention on here.
But top 10 attractions would be for me...not in any order.
Central Park walk around / Staten Island free ferry / East Village / Upper West side / 9-11 memorial/ High Line/ Chelsea Market/ Upper East side / Times square(Once) Bryant Park/ New York Library.
Tip: Don't drive in NYC if you can help it. Take subway. Far quicker and less costly.

Haven’t been myself but have a cousin who married an American girl. Very successful one. He lives in New York but they have a place on Sanibel Island in Florida and another in Vermont, which is the area you are travelling through. He says Vermont area in the Fall is the most amazing experience, they go every year. Looking at photos of it online I can quite believe him.

ps...Don't confuse Niagara Falls in the US with the Niagara Falls in Canada. The US side is to be avoided. I was there about 5 years ago, I couldn't wait to get out. it could have changed since, but then, parts of Niagara Falls in the US were very iffy. The Canadian side is better, but some parts do have a Blackpool feel to it. Amusements, tacky shops selling cheap souvenirs and the like.

Thanks for your reply, we did visit Niagara about three years ago when we also visited Toronto and I certainly agree about Parts of it being like Blackpool (I said at the time it was like International Drive, but then that’s just another Blackpool).

Kemps, we are just reaping the benefits of one of the kids having flown the nest and the other isnt coming with us, so just me and the wifey.... And she has just got another couple of days work a week to finance travel..... I’m sure one day you will be looking at the waterfalls at Niagara thinking, they are not as nice as Aysgarth Falls.....

If you're on the east coast of Canada/US and feel historical then you could follow the trail of sites of the French/Indian wars in Canada and the American revolution wars in the US.

You take in most of the major cities in the area.

International Drive may be the perfect encapsulation of America. I kinda loved it when I went.

I would add Ellis Island to any NYC trip - a really poignant place.
