gioblues - as you quoted me - I shall do you the courtesy of a reply.

Firstly, I will give some praise to Ehmer - and even Alexander for the improvement in their performances since the middle of January .....although, it couldn't have got a lot worse !...... and long before Ehmer extended his contract, I stated to my 'group' in the GRS, that I would give him a new contract for next season....as for Alexander - he definitely is more useful going forward than my first choice as a fullback.

I still feel that Ehmer (in particular), has benefited from better players, and performers in front of him since the Galinsons took over with Masterson taking much of the hard work away from the other defenders...So, thankfully, there have been fewer occasions when focus has been on the aforementioned....Gills need to add to the better players in front of Ehmer & Co - with signings in the Summer... This would / should allow players like Lapslie to be in his preferred position - he was really good in our last two home games....and, of course, (better) square pegs in square holes will be to the benefit of the whole squad............. If this doesn't happen, I am concerned that Ehmer and current choice of fullbacks, is not good enough to offer top 7...

The singings that were made in January seem to have brought out the best in other players (including Ehmer & Alexander ) - but - don't we all want more than hoofball ?
Obviously need to sign Masterson plus another to compete with the pair. McKenzie will fight with Alexander as right back. Probably need two left backs

We'll certainly need proper fullbacks ... McKenzie can be at RB.... Bradford's first goal exposed our deficiency in this position - Alexander was not covering the 'winger' - Ehmer tried to do so - but was fairly hopeless in swinging his left leg.. the cross came into the middle, and, for once, neither McKenzie or Morris covered themselves in glory !
Alexander just doesn't instil confidence in me.. He is too often not able to be in the right position - or cut out crosses into the penalty area - he actually is only useful going 'forward.'

The overall performance against Bradford was good..Gills should have taken more of their chances - especially Nichols. (( he cannot be faulted for his work rate )) - and, at least we're making chances ! The performances since January, and in particularly against the 'better' teams in L1 in very recent matches, show there isn't too much to improve upon to have a 'successful' season next year.
