Hey hey what can we do with 4th or 5th budget??

We have to settle for some avg players.

Carroll can be decent back up for plan B long ball

What is going on with Chelsea, have you gone skint?

Sold half your squad in the summer, and this window the best you can do is Barkley, and now Andy Carroll <laugh>

    champions of FFP.

Roman wants to outdo the big guns and win the league with no spend after he did it last year.

I'm utterly bemused by the Andy Carroll thing if true. He's always injured and scored a whopping 2 goals all season. If we want a striker, there are surely better options out there.

In a day United are linked with Sanchez and Arsenal with Aubameyang, it's makes depressing reading!

We're linked with Sanchez, SSN saying we've joined the race. I did find it strange we weren't in for him but I do expect him to go to United. I think his wages will price us out, if it's the 350k reported. We agree to give him that and then Hazard, Courtois and the rest can command it in their new contract.

Approached for Roma for Emerson and they could let him go for 20M. Finally a left wing back, great signing if we manage to do it!

A transfer guy has put on twitter that we've made an enquiry for Peter Crouch <laugh>

He doesn't always get them right but he does seem to get decent info from somewhere....

Yep, it seems Carroll is injured and Conte wants a "tall" player up front <ok>

Wonder if Stephen Merchant has some free time. He's as tall as Crouch ;)

So what are our views on this potential Bats / Aubameyang / Giroud merry go round?

Arsenal will be laughing of course but I think Giroud is decent enough to give competition to Morata and as a back up. He is much better at holding the ball up and as an aerial threat then Bats so in that sense, he would probably suit us a bit better at the moment. Bats then gets game time for a very good side in a very good league and hopefully can return a better more confident player.

I certainly think in the summer though we may have to be a bit more ambitious with signings and get 2-3 actual top class first teamers in rather than a host of seemingly back up players like Drinkwater, Barkley, this new left back, Giroud etc. Other wise we could get left behind.

Not easy to do of course.

    Agreed.
Would be happy with Giroud to be honest.
His style of play suits us far more than it does Arsenals, and his goal scoring record, given he is a squad player, is decent.
Would have preferred Dzeko, but at least we didnt end up with Caroll the Crock or Ancient lamp post Crouch.

I think I'd have preferred Dzeko too but if Giroud is half the price then it makes sense. Dzeko is a better footballer but isn't a 30M signing, he's in his 30's.

If Bats does well at Dortmund we'll get our money in the summer as well so decent business.

    Decent piece of business.

I would have preferred Bats to just play loads of games for us and develop but we know he wasn't going to get that under Conte so Giroud is a good backup replacement. His style suits us in that he can hold it up and we might even see morata get rotated out.

I think 17m for emerson could be a bargain. The prices being paid for players are ridiculous. Likewise, 25m for Moura i think the spuds have got themselves a great deal. He's still only 25!

The Moura one is a surprise. Not sure if he has gone off the boil recently but he was a big money signing for PSG (at the time at least) and United were in for him as well.

Smacks a little bit of PSG desperately trying to get some money in for fringe players for FFP. I saw Pastore was linked to Inter as well.

Giroud was a decent signing I think.
He was always a decent option for Arsenal up front as a squad player, and could start, and his style will certainly suit us more than it did Arsenal.
Would have preferred Dzeko, but I definitely am happier with Giroud than I would have been with Carroll or Crouch.
Barkley and Giroud isn't a bad Jan window to be honest.

You got a bargain for Giroud. The transfer for Auba was so complicated that we had to give him to you to make it happen, otherwise we would have kept him. He will get you plenty of goals.

But it'll be interesting to see how differently he operates in Chelsea, i think your style will suit him as you have a lot of creativity and attacking flair available. He should score or facilitate. This signing alone should secure your top 4 position.
