There was a point I considered Oblak one of the best keepers around but back then he did have Godin and an injury free Gimenez in front of him. Godin especially was just a one man wall, fantastic CB. Oblak’s still a top keeper mind, even if Atleti aren’t the same defensively anymore. Hugo’s still performing so well though, I honestly wouldn’t be against another extension soon to take him beyond 2024, in fact it’d feel silly not too providing he was happy to stay. Been back to his very best these last few years and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. I look at the keepers in the Prem and still consider him top 3.
He'd be a bargain if he was to be our most expensive ever signing...which he might have become, if the price for the obligatory purchase had been set in $US.
Everything I’ve seen on it is that the buy option is for the same amount as the obligation. Obviously we’ve paid loan fees as well but if he keeps at it, it’ll be a very good deal anyway.
He’s been an unbelievable signing. Getting him and Bentancur in January turned out to be huge. Both immediately settled in and become vital players for Spurs
Not Oblak, his agent There seem to be stories of Oblak heading to the Premier League popping up every month or so, which makes me wonder if his agent is angling for a new contract of his own
There are rumours that Atletico are looking to move him on because of his wages. It might be coming from them.
Reminds me of Aurier tbh...tries hard...seems to be a decent person but is in no way a top class defender
And perhaps more subtly, in that our entire system succeeding or failing seems to depend on him (if Kulu isn't on the pitch). It's ludicrous.
This has annoyed me most about Conte, in his system even I know the WBs are crucial. Spurs went and signed Spence who you assume would have been approved by Conte, yet he’s not even got a sniff yet. Emerson clearly isn’t good enough to be the RWB Spurs need but Conte keeps persisting with him. I just find it all a bit baffling
Our ability to downgrade at RB over the years has been impressive. Walker > Trippier > Aurier > Doherty > Emerson… I’m hoping Spence breaks the duck but for that to happen he actually needs to play - FAO Conte.
He's still very good most of the time that he's fit, but that's becoming increasingly rare. Only played twice this season, one of which was his outstanding performance against us. Got injured late on and hasn't featured since. We're also pretty stacked in his position already, so it's not something to focus on. Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Bissouma and Skipp are all very good and we've got Sarr and White, too. The latter two might be better off going out on loan, though.
