Transfer Rumours transfer thread fact and fiction

I'm trying to work out how we pitch these to Benfica

"Are you okay with us paying a £2.5m loan fee for an eighteen month loan we have no intention of making a permanent deal?"
"What's in it for us"
"Well, you can say that if the fee to join us is £56m, that means you can fleece whoever buys them by saying we were willing to pay that"
"Sounds sketchy"
"Don't worry, we'll inflate their value. Oh, by the way, do you have any strikers we can borrow?"

They probably knew Gedson was gash so just happy to get a loan fee and his wages covered. Atm they’ll be lucky to sell him for £5.6 million

Time to pick over who failed to qualify for the Europa League to see if there's a cheeky bid to be made

Wolfsburg
Wout Weghorst

Legia Warsaw
Michal Karbownik, as he was being linked with us back in April/May

FC Flora
Maksim Paskotsi ...oh wait, we already signed him

FC Basel
Ricky van Wolfswinkle, obviously

Sporting Lisbon
...I mean there's got to be a couple of players to loan in, right?

Galatasaray
Younes Belhanda...since we were linked with him every summer for five years

Benfica have confirmed the loan on their official site.

Translated from Portuguese (it’s not updated on their English site yet for the record):

NOTICE TO THE CMVM: VINÍCIUS
SOCCER
Information from Sport Lisboa e Benfica - Futebol, SAD on agreement with Tottenham.

Sport Lisboa e Benfica - Futebol, SAD informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the loan of player Carlos Vinícius until the end of the 2020/21 sports season for an amount of 3 millions of euros.

The said agreement, communicated at 11:56 pm on Thursday, includes a purchase option clause in the amount of 45 million euros, to which, if exercised, the amount paid for the loan will be deducted.

The agreement is dependent on the signing of the striker's sports work contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

€3m loan with an option instead of obligation to buy is a fantastic bit of work by Levy as it allows for the ball to be in our court if he proves a success, whereas if he flops and we choose not to take up the buy option, spending just €3m is nothing in today’s market for a Prem club. I know Benfica messed up badly with CL qualification but they must be really hard up to accept this sort of deal for their top scorer of last season.

There’s a couple rumours that the Skriniar deal may have stalled but I’m hoping that’s Inter trying to force us to match their asking price/ better our offer. Kim still seems to be an option but tends to blow hot and cold, one minute he’s close to signing, the next we’re still yet to agree a fee. Rudiger’s name has also pops up every now and again, really can’t see that one happening though, for multiple reasons.

Need a quality DM to knit everything together once we get a quality CB in...then I think we can challenge for the big ones again

but I’d rather wait a year and get someone absolute top quality...don’t know who that is though.

Is it time to put a "Squad watch 2020-21" article up
(players, PL/UEFA "home grown" status, squad registration, loaned in/out etc) ??

Yeah...I think he is quality actually...he would play in that area we are vulnerable in and he’s a feisty fk. That’s what we already see...but he still got no room in the squad this season...so maybe someone a bit more experienced than him is the plan

I think Hojbjerg will be able to play as a deeper DM in time. He’s shown some positive stuff but needs to be more positionally disciplined and I think he’ll be seen as the senior guy with Skipp ideally coming back as the challenger and eventual long term option.

If he really tears up the league below, a winter recall may be possible.

He’s just won Norwich’s player of the month award, I think I’d rather he stay there for the season and build up a solid 35+ matches worth of 90 minutes and then come back as a settled first team player who’ll be in the squad/ team most weeks.

Its a massive season for Skipp, the championship is a very demanding league. I think he could do with bulking up a bit.

If he needed to be recalled (would have to be an injury
plague or disgusting unprofessional levels of performance
from current senior MFs) .

Foyth looks set to seal his loan with option to buy to Villarreal soon.

Sess has loan interest from Hoffenheim and Hertha Berlin.

Along with making another move for Skriniar, Ally Gold says Merih Demirol is also an option for us, been linked in the past too.

Not exactly the best announcement, as neither Spurs nor Benfica have tweeted about it, but it still counts dammit!

Sounds like a Roman Centurion, I might just call him The Roman..

Milik Watch
CalcioMercato report that we've informed him that, if he's game, we'll take him on a free at the end of the season

Benfica will never loan us a player ever again, will they?

Skriniar Watch
Both Dan Kilpatrick and Alasdair Gold report we'll be nudging Inter in the ribs at the weekend, not least to try and see if that straightens the stripes on this season's home kit

With all these South Americans on board and the arrival of Bale I am reminded of the feeling of excitement when Ardilles & Villa joined Spurs.
I think we have some exciting times ahead.

Plus I don't think this window would have happened if Mourinho was not at Spurs. Levy has pulled out the stops to support his Coach.

What I mean is that players want to work with Jose, his reputation is still massive despite the bullshit about old fashioned tactics.
