rather win the fa cup than come 4th
I enjoy the feeling of winning a cup over the feeling of getting fourth but getting fourth is a lot more beneficial to the club in the longer term, it also increases our chances of winning trophies in future years so long as we spend the additional income sensibly.

You not aware of the irony? We won't win the league by focusing on the FA cup, that's the point, we will win the league by making damned sure we're in the CL EVERY YEAR! without fail! It's essential - our team collapses all the time because players want to leave to be in it, and we fail to make crucial signings, because we're not in it. But you'd prefer we focus on winning the same tin pot that Wigan won a few years back instead?
As for Arsenal, I'd ****ing love us to be in their state right now. Solid platform through years and years of back to back CL involvement. and with signings like Ozil and Sanchez, and possible now £30m Aubameyang, they're finally able to flex their muscles and loosen the purse strings.
We have one crucial aim this season, and that's to get back into the CL at any cost, not worry about winning a domestic trophy.
Not that old chestnut. Why did United have no problem attracting players last season, and if Sterling is so keen to move for trophies and CL football, then why no transfer request?

You mean like last year where we had no CL football for 5 years and had or best league season for 6 years and were within inches of winning the league...?
im not saying CL isn't important, just that I'd rather win the FA cup than finish 4th.

Liverpool have agreed a five-year deal for Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino, according to reports in the player’s home country of Brazil.
News outlet Globoesporte (h/t Marc Williams of the Daily Star) claim a transfer fee of £17.8 million has been struck for the Selecao star. Williams noted interest from Manchester United in Firmino, but at this juncture, it seems as though Anfield is the 23-year-old’s most likely transfer destination.

So last season you'd prefer we had won the FA cup than steal 4th ahead of United? I guess if that's what you feel, I can't really argue against it, it just smacks of a short term "hit" rather than focusing on the long-term growth.
CL participation is primarily about revenue generation, which is supposed to be the platform to deliver the players that can win you the title. However, the 2 oil clubs won the league irrespective of it, and Arsenal haven't had their hands on it for 11 years despite being in the CL every season during that period.
Football is about trophies not balance sheets, give me the FA Cup over 4th any day of the week these days. I think the CL has become a stale predictable borefest, that only about half a dozen clubs max can realistically win in the current cycle the game finds itself in.

Liverpool FC are pleased to announce that goalkeeper Danny Ward has agreed a new long-term contract with the club.
The 22-year-old, who began his career at hometown club Wrexham before moving to Anfield, officially committed his future to the Reds by penning a new deal today.
Ward has been a regular fixture between the sticks for the club's U21 team since making the switch to Merseyside in January 2012.
The Welshman's progress was aided by a one-month loan spell at Morecambe last season, and he made five appearances for the League Two side during his short stay.
After returning to the Academy, he continued to impress under Michael Beale's guidance as the U21s fought for the Barclays Premier League title.
The 'keeper's good form was subsequently rewarded with a place in the first-team squad on a number of occasions toward the conclusion of the 2014-15 campaign.
Ward has been capped on four occasions by Wales' U21 team and was called up to the senior squad in 2013.

Last season showed where you currently sit in the European pecking order. 2005 is long gone, your chances of a repeat without the aid of an oil lotto win are about as remote as my chances of smashing Kelly Brook.
Not really - teams like Dortmund, At Madrid and Juventus have made it to the final in recent years, and none are rich.
As usual, I'm forever the optimist and ask you all, why can't we win the FA Cup and qualify for CL?
But in all seriousness - qualifying for CL is far more important for the long term growth of the club. It generates revenues, it attracts sponsors, more fans and more importantly, better players. These better players then drive further income through endorsement and merchandise etc etc.
However - this should then lead to more success on the pitch i.e. more trophies.
FA Cup is a short term win.
CL is more long term.

Did they get fined £25m? Or was £25m just deducted from their CL winnings?
I imagine being awarded a reduced prize has different legal implications than being fined.
So, I said yesterday that Skrtel had a contract on the table which hadn't been signed yet because he was either away on holiday (which he is) or because he's not happy with it. It seems Ilori has been promised more first team football next season, so it could well be that Skrtel is on his way out. Lower wage packet offered to Martin with bonuses based on play time, but play time which will naturally lower due to Ilori - he's not a happy bunny.
Regarding Lucas, people here seem keen to get rid, but who would they realistically sign instead? Song is crap, sorry, but he is. Carvalho perhaps, but would he come here over other options? Lucas has to stay because there's no one better we could get.
Firmino will probably come to England. City, us and United interested. Hoffenheim want a higher upfront payment than City are offering so we've got a chance still...
