It was reported last month that talks over a new deal had stalled after Liverpool included a clause relating to number of games he must play each season.
The Reds offered a three-year deal with the option of another year, but talks “hit a snag over a clause relating to the number of games he must play each season.”
The 30-year-old is quoted by Slovakian newspaper Aktualne explaining why he has rejected the offer.
Skrtel is asked:
Reportedly, the problem is that you would only receive the full amount of money under the new deal if you play quite a high number of games…
To which he replies: “It’s unacceptable for me.”
So that’s the obstacle, why you have not signed a new contract?
“Absolutely. I think that such contracts offered to players who are much older than me or the player who had some health problems. And I don’t feel so old that I could sign such an agreement.
The contract, which was introduced to me, [is] unacceptable, so I did not sign it.
“There have been some speculations about the interest of other clubs, but they are currently being addressed.”
Skrtel’s current deal expires next summer.
The Slovakian national team captain signed for Liverpool from Zenit St. Petersburg in 2008, making him currently the second longest serving player at the club, behind Lucas Leiva who joined the year before.

Skrtel has been a good servant to the club etc. Occasionally error-prone, wrong positioning, occasional lack of reading of game. Not sure if he fits BR's methods of playing. Maybe a good opportunity for both him and the club if he moves on.

I agree, this goes back to the lack of leaders in the squad. I don't think there's a stand out captain there. Hendo as captain is laughable imo.

He has one year left on his contract.
Sell him and replace him with Schar. Probably break even and get a better player in return.

It's only improved if we splash out on a top quality player or two. Origi hasn't set the world alight since we signed him.....time will tell
£150k is still ridiculous for a player of his ability and I don't agree with playing significantly higher wages because we have increased revenue.
He's one of the highest, if not the highest earners at this club.
I don't mind Milner and happy to add him to the squad - just hung up on the package we're giving him, for the limited return we are likely to get.

Just one cog is fine. But making him one of our highest paid players is not.
Don't mind signing him but I hope we bring in a DM which is biggest hole in midfield.
I'm happy with the signing, not going nuts about is but happy. He improves out team simple but we still need to have ambition and get a couple of big signings in.
I agree with the DM as Lucas can't be relied on with his injury record. I would suggest that a bid for Allen would be accepted at this point he's going to struggle to get in now.
Would talk to Rafa if he can release some players on loan because of our tight budget.
