It was Glasner who spat his dummy out and threatened to resign if the Guehi to Liverpool deal went ahead. The same Glasner who might be the next Man United manager. He is now saying that City can have him if they stump up the money. Glasner is a manager I dislike a lot
Their owners took a gamble, they thought with Guehi they could qualify for Europe and then Glasner would stay on longer. Things have changed now. Chances of Palace making Europe as slim and Glasner isn't going to stay (he probably never was as there was always likely something better to pop up).
So now they're desperate to make some money off Guehi while they can (cause there wont be any European money to offset his loss) and Glasner doesn't care anymore cause he's already started thinking about his next job.

It was naive of the Palace owners, letting a wantaway manager dictate terms of a transfer cause he gave them lofty dreams, instead of being pragmatic.

None of that alters the fact that you needed Guehi last summer and need him more now. The moment this window opened you should have been straight back in with the £35m. If, as reported, City want him and beat you to the signature, then Liverpool fans should be furious.

Nah.

If you even look at the average midfield positions frok our last game you would see why thsts not true.

When jones played left midfield at best, gravenberch was on average right midfield, macallister also left midfield and szoboszlai played rw.

Not one of them sat centrally.

People walk through our centre every week right in on the back 4.

That's reality.

If city want to pay 35mil for a guy with 6 month left they can go right ahead

I wanted a cm last summer and the majority consensus was it was at best a low priority.

We need to lock down that central.midfield zone and build a platform for the forwards and attacking full backs to play off.

Its moot but another manager would get our current squad singing with no need for guehi at all.

Now if you want to debate going into a season with gomez and a kid as reserves then I'd be on your side.

But currently konate is actually fit but he is a big lump you.cant expose like this constantly.

You haven’t been able to defend a set piece all season, yet you equate that to gaps in midfield?
I see a lack of confidence across the back 4 and I think Guehi would solve that issue

Funniest or saddest transfer rumour of the day is Liverpool are interested in former United player Mason greenwood <doh>

Not sure why a Spanish publication would have the inside scoop on an English player playing in France but there we go.

Even worse is bbc posting it in their rumour section.

I don't get why we aren't just going straight back in for Guehi personally.

4 months ago we had agreed that £35m fee and he was doing his interviews, we're now even lighter at CB with Leoni's injury - make a new offer and take it from there, he clearly wanted to be a Liverpool player.

This is the bit I don’t understand either. You had obviously budgeted for him back in the summer, you still need that position filled and he wanted to join you. Seems like a “no brainer” to me.

The only thing I can think of is that his interest in us has cooled. Seen that Real or City are interested and probably either prefers them or thinks he can get a bigger pay day.

You're right, I was going to bring this up myself. We are vulnerable at set-pieces even though the defence has all the time in the world to set itself for them.

Yeah - we're not the attraction now that we would have been at the start of the season.

Well I was told on here we will still attract players because of our name and history.I think any decent players will see us as a team struggling and will stay away for this season.

To an extent we will, we've had some superb players in the past when we've been much worse than we are now, but it depends on who is competing with us.
If City and Real have been sniffing around a player, then he's more likely to go there - even though it might not turn out to be the best career move in the long run.
Also depends on the player and what he wants out of his career. I know it comes as a shock to some on here, but not everyone is motivated by money above all else. The lure of trophies must be a compelling factor in this, but atm we're not looking good for that either, in the short term.
You can see how many fans see our six month relative mediocrity as some sort of cataclysmic extinction event - no reason to expect players to be any different.

the moment we didn't get the deal over the line in the summer all bets were off particularly as he also now has the option of signing a pre contract agreement with a european team .

How'd do you know we aren't doing that?

A lot of sources say he now favours a deal with City. Really disappointing if true
It'd be his own mistake if he went to City. Yeah sure they need him now, now that all their CBs are injured. But what happens when they are fit again, he's either going to be rotated or sit on the bench.

He'd walk into our defence atm and with Konate ****ing off in the summer, he'd command that position for next season.

He’s command the position even if Konate didn’t leave

he starts for city alongside Dias with Gvardiol at LB.
