We need players who can actually stand up. Having talented but injury-prone players has cost us the league, and we're currently better off with the more modest attributes of the likes of Phillips.
The best player in the world is no use to us on the injury table.
In reality we're not going to go for someone who's completely useless, so as long as he's decent the injury record becomes vital.
just wondered if anyone had seen him actually play after all the Upemecano fella has a big rep yet always looked very suspect on the few occasions i've seen him play .

Yes. Better than Upamencano, and is one of the best young centre backs in Europe. Huge potential. Pretty much ticks every box for us (bar injury record).

He would be number 1 partner for VVD, with Kabak and Gomez as the back ups.
well not sure being better than Upamecanno is much to shout about tbh .
You might want to wait until we have signed him and seen him play in the PL before getting too excited .

He gets a hard on for virtually any overseas player you’re linked with, you ought to know this by now mate.

He’ll have been watching him for years like, same as he always claims.

Yeah, and this is the problem, there are so many different opinions. Some people think Upamecano is great but I wouldn't go for him, based on what I've seen.
As for this other guy, I know nothing about him.

i rarely see european games these days so have practically zero knowledge unless i've seen the in the CL and even then quite likely that names of players didn't fully register these days . Personally apart from some players who are top of the game i wait till they have played in PL as it is a real football culture shock for some .
as an aside i really don't rate the quality of the Bundeslegia as particularly high so am always cautious on how they will perform .

Jimmy clearly does watch more overseas football than most of us so at least can offer an opinion on a players quality .
Agree he can get a tad carried away at times but so what we all have our foibles including you . .

This injury record will be being scrutinised in the finest detail so we are not going to be taking undue risks on Konate

It's still too early to see whether we proceed with Kabak but I have been pleasantly surprised with him. He has settled in nicely and shown he can play on both sides of the defence. For £18m, he could be a shrewd long term signing - someone who will be behind VVD and Konate but has the potential to become a regular.

If anything, I reckon we sell Davies and Phillips and we'll get £15m-20m if we're lucky.

On paper, Konate fits the profile perfectly. He is the ideal option - quick, strong, good in the air, decent on the ball and can play in a high line. The only question mark over him is his injury record.

Wouldn't rush to sell Williams yet. I know he's slow and raw, but I've not seen a gangly 20-year-old that good in the air since Thommo. As for Konate - didn't he **** up against us in the first leg and let Salah in, or was it Mane? But he is quick - when Virgil is fit again we can go back to playing 2-5-3 on attack. Still think we need to get the players to be more adaptable though to different formations.
