  • Marouane Fellaini is suing New Balance for £2.1m over claims their boots are causing "considerable damage" to his feet.

Dont blame him, I imagine the boots aren't good for twisting when you try to elbow someone.

By January we should agree a reasonable release clause with Can, even if it's for £20m or else we'll lose him for nothing next year.

Its i think the principle of the ask.

The fact is with what he wants he is seeking to be one of highest paid players but with a release clause that just about any club in europe could trigger in any january leaving us with no replacement.

Its a bad ask from our point of view.

I am however not sure if he is being offered a high release or we are not offering any release.

I saw 160k per week plus release of 20mil

I've no issue with the wage personally nor the thought of A release clause but to ask for a miserly one is too much.

Its all baout when you will do business. I am confident that if LFC set down a plan and if like adults they talk to players about coming year and like coutinho they say yes boss can't wait then **** off and try engineer a move then we won't play ball. We don't need to be in the middle of a season and see a key midfielder walk for half nothing cos some club somewhere has an injury and they need to plug a gap and a release clause allows it.

Release clauses are not punitive on either side... as both parties must agree to them. the issue is about the hyper inflation making them pointless mid contract.

Nope. Can is not worth telling everyone and their agents they can now have release clauses in their contracts. The £20m we'd save on Can (and it's not even £20m since about £5m-£10m would go straight back to him as a signing on bonus) is absolutely nothing compared to the hundreds of millions lost on star players having clauses.

A year ago maybe a £60m release clause on Coutinho would seem reasonable. A few months later it looks like suicide and we're facing a season with him gone and any replacement looking to cost £80m+

yes that's it.

over 5 years I would say it's almost impossible now to set one for both sides

Liverpool are reportedly keeping an eye on the situation of a star player at Manchester City as Jurgen Klopp considers replacements for contract rebel Emre Can.

In a shock move, the Reds could be ready to pounce for Spanish playmaker David Silva if there is no progress between him and City over a new contract, according to the media.

Silva is 32 in January.........

Tbf refusing the Can release clause makes a little more sense now, having read the above comments. I totally forgot that any clause could actually be triggered as early as Jan if agreed now and I guess it would send the wrong message out to agents in future negotiations.

With Keita, Wiji, Hendo, Lallana, Milner and potentially still Coutinho next season, I don't think we'll need to directly replace Can. Keita pretty much covers that hole in the squad. What we need in midfield is a DM and a replacement for Coutinho if he leaves.

just can't see this. the guy is first choice at city

How many of our players start every game? so your logic is flawed...

When fit; Mane, Salah, Hendo, Matip, Clyne and currently, Moreno too.

The clubs been silly with Can in that he will leave for free/peanuts. However, they've been sensible not to give in to high demands from an average player too.

I think it's just daft business sense from us. We left it too late, played hardball again with a decent player whilst the turds at the club are on staggering wages for their limited ability. You can see why Can is a bit peeved off and thinks he warrants a higher wage!

Now the situation surely has to be saying, look Emre, you want out, fine you can leave, but lets get a bit of cash in for you as well. 20-30mill is peanuts in today's game, but it's something we can put towards a replacement. If that means we give him 150k a week until the summer, so be it. It's a damn sight better than getting nothing! Worst case scenario there being no one will want to up his wages and he'll stick around on 150 a week, which is probably about what he's worth anyway.
