Maybe not a top player but certainly level of not better and with more potential than Hendo. And those are the only two players we have that will sit in the middle of midfield.

Being better than our other CMs isn't the milestone we should be aiming for. None of them are good enough.

(Not counting Coutinho or Lallana as CMs btw)

Agree, but I’d rather keeper the better players and lose the worse ones than visa versa while we look to buy even better ones.

Not at the cost of letting one hold the club to ransom, though. If he were irreplaceable, another Suarez or something, then perhaps we'd have to chew the pillow a bit, but Can isn't that good that he can demand anything he wants. I'm all for the club standing firm on this, provided that the offer they've made him is a reasonable one.
Perhaps they could have pre-empted this by acting sooner, but that horse has bolted now, so what matters is where we go from here.

Is he holding he club to ransom though? No reports that he’s been demanding silly money etc. Think just wants assurances aboutfirst team and a comparitable wage. He’s been in and out the team and arguably Just as good if not better than Gini and Hendo has been who are probably on more than the contract he’s been offered. If I was in his position at my job and my colleagues were given pay rises when I knew I’d performed better then them I’d be a bit miffed as well.

I sont see any ant issue in him holding out and seeing what happens in Jan-May.

If it was a choice between keeping him and Hendo I know who I’d chose given age, potential and injury record.

That isn't the choice though is it? And that is oversimplifying the situation.
There are a lot of assumptions in your post. I don't know the details, but logic suggests that if an agreement can't be reached then there must be some problem - and what else could it be other than the club thinks his demands are too high?
I'm not one of those that thinks that everything the club does is automatically wrong, and that anyone who doesn't get what they want is being badly done to. I'll wait until the details are revealed before passing judgement, but my gut feeling is that he (or his agent) are just expecting too much.

Agree with Biscan in that we should be getting rid of the **** players before the decent ones.

Can’t say that I’ve seen wage demands as being the issue but more the release clause. Which I think will become more common in near future ...

He'll have quite a few takers I reckon!

he should.

everything about him is right for us... oh now.hes right footed and that but hes 22 and a top player.

tbh though he's a Nike player so I think all the agents and corporates will be I his ear so there's little chance.

id throw160k at him before can anyway... but it's not enough.

Jose Gimenez on a free from Athletico?

The best XI players out of contract next year

Jose Gimenez (Atletico Madrid)

Gimenez is a 22-year-old centre-back mature beyond his years, who has been linked with every major football club on the planet since shooting to prominence a couple of seasons ago. Just this week it was reported in some (perhaps unreliable) circles that Arsenal and United would be battling for him in January. His future is up in the air as it stands, with his contract up in a year.

If he is wanting assurances about first team football what does that mean. He starts regular enough, or is he wanting a guarateed start or a guaranteed position. Either of these, he is holding us to ransom.
If he wants higher wage than... AND a silly release clause then he is also holding us to ransom.
So my gut from available evidence is that whilst he is only trying to get a good deal for himself (nothing wrong with that) he is still trying to hold us to ransom or wants his cake whilst eating it, any of the cliches.
I dont hate him for it - just dont like it . I believe the club attempted negotiations a while back. Imho he either ewants to stay or go. If he wants to go say it and give your best till the last game then we can wish him well, thats all i ask for. Dont allow ur agent to cause **** and disrupt the squad then leave - simples

i really don't knwo what peopel think kieta will do form jan to may when its obvious a better defence is the real issue.

if we keep salah and mane fit and balance the side out a bit then we can improve a lot on where we are.

he has more legs than can and Henderson and he might actually have a brain and sit as a Number 6...

Also if not, he's surely a better dribbler/passer/shooter than Can/horrenderson or Winja if playing the box to box role

How the ****k are we supposed to turn a blind eye to our deficiencies if you go and write them down in black and white
