and precisely how do you think that will occur?

there will be two identical offers but the player is not allowed choose between them?

there won't be... we wont be bidding.

if there were and the club turned one down then there are not two offers for him to consider. he can reject the one he is "shown" by southampton :0

Really we must get over this vvd obsession. he's not ever joining lfc. we ended all interest.... or did we? <laugh>

The latest talking head/pundit is Nigel Worthlesston. ****ing irrelevant nonsense about Liverpool's history but Barca are a bigger club (who's arguing?), but it's all about what the player wants. Not a ****ing word about want LFC want to do, nor that the 'unbelievable' £140m isn't, er actually, £140m at all, but a series of Provvy cheques over the next decade and a basket of unachievable bonuses.

its just a distraction for tonight... lets all wait til they actually make the offer sometime in the next 8 days.

Agree with all of that, and I think you and me are the only ones on here who've been saying from June that it's all over. Purely hypothetical point though - a contract works both ways, and even if you've put in a TR you can not be sold to a club that you don't wish to go to.

absolutely not. there is no onus on anyone to sign a contract with anyone. any player can refuse to sign anything anywhere.

think that is the problem i and by the look of it most others read it to read that if we made an identical bid they couldn't refuse it when they can .No one thinks they can force VVD to sign for anyone as that is wholly his decision to make just as which offers to accept is Southamptons decision.
 
Sooo, the papers. Yesterday we're told that Coutinho never said all that **** that they said he'd said and that he wants to reintegrate himself with the team.
Today we're told he's asked Barca to make another bid.
Really, they haven't a ****ing clue.

If I remember correctly mate, in the vvd thread on your board, fatletiss in response to something I'd said about our club commented ''it's never your fault .... ever''. Sky challenged him immediately on it and I asked fatletiss to explain what his comment meant - the usual backtracking commenced and some utter nonsense about ''I was referring to when Brendan Rodgers .. '' blah blah. I asked him to further explain then what he meant by adding the word ''ever'' to the comment. He was unable to do this and carried on in some faux outrage.

Fair play to you though you did try and be a small voice of reason. You responded to Sky's comment saying you agreed that the phrase shouldn't be used when talking to Liverpool fans. At that point fatletiss verbally abuses you for agreeing with Sky and what did you do? - you allowed yourself to be shouted down and crumbled under the weight of the bully. Heck you were tripping over yourself apologising to fatletiss, three times in one comment!

So what do you think he meant by ''never your fault .... ever'' - with emphasis on the added word ''ever'' - that made you apologise so profusely to him? I left that thread more or less at that point and never went back to look. Your backtracking on the matter completely negated your earlier efforts of trying to be reasonable. The only person with any guts on there was Sky.

Just for the record, I have no problem with you whatsoever. You're a good poster and I enjoy talking to you on our board but please don't tell me when and where I can use inverted commas when my experience of saints posters, as I've tried to describe in this post, has been that even the 'decent' ones weren't as decent as they should have been in that particular instance.

You and jaspar are welcome on our board as far as I'm concerned. We need more good quality wums <cheers>

For the record, me and said poster don't get on AT ALL, but I genuinely believe he wasn't intending the comments in that respect which was what I pointed out to you both.

I know the guy personally so feel I'm in a good position to make that judgement, although like I say we really don't get on on here.

I also followed up after apologising to him that I maintained that people should consider that a poor choice of phrase and be more considerate even if they don't have that intention.

I also said to him that the above was even more important to be careful about when it's a local Liverpool fan such as you are, you may not have seen that post.

Please don't tell me that I don't have any guts as I've simply never been a poster to side with fellow Saints purely on that reason. I don't even post on our board at the moment.

I don't disagree with that? Just you said saints legally had to accept our bid if they accepted Chelsea's bid if they are identical. That's not true.

If chelsea are only team to have bid accepted then he'll go there rather than stay at saints though.

Hello mate. Bad news, I'm afraid. Our long-awaited first meeting next month won't be happening. I was coming down on the 14th, but my hip replacement is on 4th September, so there's no way I'll be ready for that length of trip. It'll have to wait for another day.

Bottom line: A club does not have to accept any bid for a player under contract whether it is for £30m or for £130m IF there is no release clause. Also a club can accept any bid even for £1m or £50K for a top player if they wish to do so. Accepting a bid does not mean the player would be sold. The player then HAS to agree to te move. Otherwise no sale and the player stays at the club. So basically you need BOTH the club and the player to agree to the move.

NB: A player called Winston Bogarde refused to be transferred from Chelsea even though he was in the reserves and the club had accepted very low bids and even free transfer for him. he preferred to draw his large salary and run down his contract.

Don't want this to labour on mate. As far as I'm concerned it was done and dusted ages ago and the only reason a few of us commented again was because it reared it's ugly head again in the form of History Repeating who came here the other day and felt the need to throw in a ''victim'' comment.

I refuse to believe there's a single regular football forum user [of which fatletiss is one] who doesn't know not to say 'those phrases' to a Liverpool fan. Think about it - ''it's never your fault ... ever''. Those saying that to Liverpool fans are doing so with full deliberate intent to upset. Why ''ever''? You really can't get away from it.

I said the other day that posters should have guts to stand up to other posters , adding ''it's not like you're going to get punched in the face''. Finding out now that you know fatletiss personally, puts a new spin on that. <laugh> Also like to add by saying only Sky showed any guts - doesn't mean I directly said to you ''you haven't got any guts''. I'm sure you have <ok>

As for my wum comment - pay no heed - it's how we address all our visitors <whistle>
