A contract works both ways - if VVD was to say that he wished to move to Liverpool, and Liverpool matched all terms that Chelsea did, then under contract and employment law they wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Bottom line is, even though VVD has put a TR in, all three parties have to agree a move, not just the two clubs.

Moot point though - VVD will go to Chelsea if they stump up enough money and Soton say they won't listen to any offers from Liverpool.

He can refuse to sign for Chelsea but like Tobes said, identical offers are under no obligation to be accepted.

In fairness while we are not in right.... it is very rare that this situation occurs.

If a club say like utd or real bid on an arsenal player it is only reasonable for arsenal to want the player not to go to a rival.

I remember we had a full back called Heinze (correct name? ) agreeing to come to us from the mancs. The mancs refused our offer and accepted a lesser offer from abroad.

Yeah but that was agent agreed and utd were not ever selling to us. I dont know that we actually formally bid or not?

Did we actually bid or just got told not to?

Do you think im right that this is just a story to distract us on day of play off.

Its not a bid. Just a press hack saying what they might bid
I've no idea what to believe, mate. Your idea is as good as any but I won't pretend to have a clue what's going on.
The whole saga is just laughable really, and the role of the press pretty ****, imo. In their desperation to get clicks, they'll run with, and inflate, any story they can get their hands on without making the slightest attempt to establish its veracity.
I've never had much respect for the vast majority of sports journos, I've got even less now.

The truth is, there's not much else going on.

LFC declare they have dropped their interest in VVD 2 months ago... Let's ignore that and keep it going every day

LFC declare Coutinho is not for sale this window at any price, Barca put deadline on an offer to be accepted that passes... Let's ignore that and keep going every day

It's laughable and I look forward to hearing about another terrible deadline day with all these cretins standing outside grounds on their own all night - pathetic

No, Liverpool and Chelsea could match offers but there is nothing forcing saints to accept them both. It's up to them who they sell to. If they want to accept one and reject then others that's entirely up to them.

You know Sky will just try to hype it up beyond all reason again, their presenters frantically shouting at us that, er..... nothing has happened.

Yup it really is an extension of the disintegration of decent news globally.

There's a million and one twitter hacks trying to get their name out there.

And there's nothing to force VVD to go to Chelsea if he doesn't want to. Why is this so hard for everyone?

Never said (or certainly meant to say) that isn't the case - but if the club had identical offers and tried to force a sale to one of the clubs over the player's head they would be foul of contact law - they can not sell a player to a club that they do not want to go to. Totally irrelevant though - he'll go to Chelsea in a flash to get out of the ****storm he's no created.

Irrelevant. You said they'd fall foul of contract and employment law if they refused to accept an offer from Liverpool that matched another that they'd received - they wouldn't. <ok>

They would if they tried to sell the player over his head to a club that he didn't want to go to.
