    Yes this is true.

It is entirely on the club to have signed or sold them.

Since bosman came in players are free to do whatever outside of the contract

thats not true though is it as players can just string the club along without signing a new contract and even if the club put them up for sale they can just sit on their hands as they have been tapped up think it will be beneficial to their careers .

I think you're oversimplifying things here. Both sides have to be willing to engage, and have a shared goal in sight.
If the player, through his agent, is playing hard to get then it makes it difficult for the club to come up with a solution that is best for the club.
You've made it clear in the past that you don't think much of Edwards, Ward and co, and I think this informs your opinion.
As I've said, I think Trent is looking to leave to get some trophies in an easier league, so only silly money will tempt him to stay, and I'm behind the club if they're not willing to pay it.
As for the other two, it's presumably length of contract that could be the main stumbling block.

    Am I?

What about what juve did to chiesa? Thry are extremely harsh but they wanted him going and made it very clear he was out and so he moved.

If it was clear to fsg they were not going to get salah to sign thry could have picked up a phone and invited an offer.

If salah says no then imo we'd have heard about it.

As nothings happened on any of the players my conclusion is the club didn't start negotiating and did t try to sell anyone either.

We would have heard somewhere if a club offered money for these players and were knocked back.

I don't think we know half of what goes on behind the scenes.
"Hearing about it" is often just some hack flying a kite.

I wonder if the whole City thing has a small factor in whether they sign. If City go unpunished (which is what I expect will happen) could have players thinking whats the point as City will walk the league most years so will look elsewhere for trophies.

You could be right. I'm convinced that was a big part in Klopp's decision.

Klopp's plan is to leave, which in turn makes Pep feel it is ok to leave. Klopp will them return...

As we know Dave fallows is departing from his role as director of scouting. At 64 I think that's a nice age to retire at personally

It is rumoured we are trying for Markus Pilawa (dortmund and Bayern fame)

While scouting is a vital part of the setup, I'm not sure how you go about choosing replacements in those roles. A lot of whether a player makes it at a certain club is down to good fortune.

Find guys with reputation and contacts?

This guy is being made out to be the dortmund mastermind but in reality there's a lot that has to come together at a club to make it attractive to a cohort of players isn't there?

The earlier you get a player in their development, the higher the risk of failure. Dortmund get more right than most, don’t they? And I suspect that’s because they are scouted well. Of course, you then have to sell the vision and in some cases make commitments to some of the talent…..the latter is where, imo, we would fall down…..would we have guaranteed Jude Bellingham a starting place?

And of course it's easier when you play in a league where you can give more time to younger players AND nobody expect you to win. Just get to cl again and rinse and repeat.

Indeed. You can pretty much promise young ‘up and coming’ talent the chance to play CL football every year. It’s an amazing shop window where you have limited competition for places. We’ll never be that imo.

All transfers are risky. There's a balance somewhere between going for a player too soon in his career and waiting too long. Bellingham is actually a good example of this.

Some clubs make the risks look low and some very high indeed.

    City v utd.

You'd name the city flops on one hand over 7 years
You'd name the utd successes on the same hand over the same time

Do they though? Or do we just hear about the ones that make it.

fair point….but I’d bet that they’ve bought more kids and made them bigger names than most in recent years.

Interestingly, Real have started looking at Porro (Spurs) for RB if they can't get Trent.

So there must be some doubt, in RM's mind, as to how much Trent is likely to move after all.

Or they are using the media to float stories so trents camp is under pressure to given an answer.

Once Jan 31st passes the player is worthless to lfc.

Once Jan 1st passes he is free to sign pre-contract.
