If the players were still under contract then you didn't have to sell them. The fact that you did hints at the fact you wanted the money to make changes anyway so must have had some plan in place.
No point in keeping players that don't want to be there. I doubt anyone seriously thinks it was anything other than a complete surprise.

Yeah they updated it later adding the add ons guessing another case our bid was accepted then he wouldn’t talk to us as was waiting for Chelsea’s bid to come in

Like I’ve said a few times. When chelsea are offering more money and an 8 year contract. That’s guaranteed money for the majority of your career even if you get a horror injury or just turn ****. Worse case you get loaned out to other clubs with Chelsea paying your wages.

No player / agent is turning that down

they can be yes.

they are done in hours in preseason

in any event the sequence of events here are very clear the timing of bids on lavia, fabinho and henderson are all out there and now we know precisely how much we had to spend while we were low balling Southampton.

my point was get the deal done but we've failed to do that and then it's very clear we've then decided there's a better option, but failed.

We then ran back and bid 15mil more than we were willing to for the guy we were low balling for.

there's no point, as I said, denying what happened and there's no point not taking a lesson from it.

just who the first choice really was I just don't know.

it didn't feel like we were all in on lavia we were messing round.

the second we had a sniff of cacideo we were all in.

who knows. but it does seem like we are well down the list of preferences by now.
I'm not buying that for a second. It may be a short time between us first hearing about it and the deal being completed but that doesn't mean that a target has been identified and a package put together in that time.
That would be the very epitome of a panic buy. A lot of work goes on before it becomes public, and it takes time.
Anyway this is just deflection - you said that all signings should have been made early in the window and I pointed out that things changed once it was well underway.

No denying that most players will choose the money but again surely we should of double checked with player he would still be interested in signing if we bid again. Don’t blame him after being dropped for caicedo so quickly. Does make us look amateur again.

what will he be paid there? £150k a week for turning up to train for 8 years…..knowing that you’ve a £115m player being picked ahead of you every time if fit. You e made it….even if you dont improve one iota, you have arrived

Dont think he didn’t want to come, by most accounts he was keen and at that point again chelsea hadn’t made an offer so we were only ones on the table. Once chelsea made an official bid or declared proper interest and his agent had spoke about money on offer, I’m sure it then became an easier pick for him

Well I’d assume he has faith in his ability to be picked ahead of Gallagher which I would expect. Will then be a midfiekd 3 of Lavia caicedo and Fernandez which on paper looks very good.

The fact he won’t be loaned out like most of their other 18-20 year old players who signed recently prob shows that he’s ahead of them as well. Does make you wonder why all these other kids are signing for chelsea. If you’re immediately shoved out on loan? Highly h likely you’re gonna be playing in future as not 1 player has gone out and forced their way back into teams.

Santos
Washington
Casadari
Oguchukwu
Angelo
David Fofana
Slonina

All highly rated youngsters signed in last 2 years that have gone or are going out on loan.

I read it's £250k a week. I think Chelsea will play both him and Caiecedo ahead of Fernandez in a 3-2-4-1. Or 3- 5 2. He'll get more games than Gallagher, I expect.

No idea, He's a CB. £39m release clause according to the press.

Hope this doesn't gloss over our desperate need for a proper holding mid.

A lot of money if he's not quick, because in Phillips we had a better slow CB than Maguire. Or that Argie midget who plays for Uniturd, truth be told.

Last call for joe Gomez to be tried at DM - ffs, we have NOTHING to lose. Rather than shoe-horn Gakpo into midfield and push Macca back into DM - the guy is fast, can tackle, can pass, and has immaculate control. Please try it Jurgen. :emoticon-0148-yes:

most of these won't be heard of again. Wiston bogarde and baba rahamans

lavia will be replaced in a wi dows time anyway

the one thing I find funny is that both Brighton amd Southampton have gone and agreed lesser fees thst we have bid.

and significantly less.

basically the players are tapped up but it's so much money anyway neither club is concerned by over 7mil each less being taken than thr could have.
