I just can't believe that after all these years, MITO is finally acknowledging the importance of a good Sporting Director and the impact Edwards leaving had on the club.

So you're finally admitting the importance of Michael Edwards? ...

There's one significant reason why Edwards and then Ward left, along with Ian Graham -=

no I'm saying he was no great shakes at all.

when someone does leave though and you appoint the guy from within and it sort of works a bit there's an easy trap to fall into by doing it again.

edwards was in with comolli. ward is then once removed again and less talented again

this all reminds me of the demise of arsenal and utd. absentee no knowledge business owners relying on guy guy to keep the show going and when it all comes apart then there's nothing there and no structure

I'm on record many times on here for YEARS saying enjoy the ride. why? cos when klopp left I had zero faith in fsg having any club structure to replace.

as we speak klopp and his coaches look bereft of putting a system of play together with these players. they look short of energy and ideas and fitness.

we've owners with zero structure round the club.

Well guess what's next. inevitably klopp goes either 2026 or now very likely before

we get the next Hodgson

you'll find I wanted a real sporting director for years not that no mark and especially not his little Portuguese expert.

you'll note neither have a job. that says it all.

Ibrahim Sangare (PSV, 25) has a £32m release clause.

Don't know much about him though.

Don't know much about him earlier. Saw his name last year and has come up post Moises too. Supposedly someone we've been tracking for a long time. (Has to be a reason we've never sprung for him though if that's true)

Why did Edwards leave anyway? I’ve always assumed that he was over ruled about extending contracts to the players that we now clearly know shouldn’t have been extended and he lost his say on all things transfers

Was weird to see them over here for an away game. Think most people can see what Chelsea are doing is very dodgy so not sure what special information the owners have. But if the premier league are serious about enforcing FFP they have 3 chances to really punish a team (and not just a fine <doh>) With Man City, Everton and Chelsea all currently under investigation. At the moment La liga seems more stringent on rules as they have been forcing Barcelona to play by the rules.
More money and a longer contracts trumps anything we can offer.

so be it, move on.
I don't get why he'd choose Chelsea, knowing they're singing Caceido for double his price, who's going to be first choice in his position.

Klopp is still here and it's all falling apart and has been for a while. He is the single biggest issue at the club at the moment, whether people want to admit it or not.

Edwards, Ward and Graham all left in quick succession because they lost their power to Klopp and Ljinders, and Klopp was rejecting their suggestions and going with his own.

Until we get a proper Sporting Director who can wrestle control back, we will not improve IMO. Klopp needs to be given a squad, assembled for him, which he can then focus purely on coaching.

We were most well run club at one point, and has the smartest guys working for us. They have since left, and we can no longer compete.

imo this goes back to Michael Edwards.

the club was on the slide then with poor decisions and lack of will and he walked (not that he was gods gift)

instead of a proper replacement in a key job they just appointed a no mark assistant in ward who then walks after 12months.

still no replacement.

Well guess what?

First thing you do is pay the best possible staff to work at your club.

hiring a smackhead for 3 months is not how to work.

they had their shot at lavia weeks ago and blew it. then they showed him he wasn't wanted by bidding on caicedo then went crawling back after cheslea dumped adam only to find him tapped up too.

start at the top here.
Except they didn't. They left the Lavia deal after two rejected bids. Obviously they didn't want him enough or he would be here already.

Name me one club where it has ever worked where manager has not been given any say in transfers and managed to win anything?

I'm sure it comes down to money... but it also doesn't look like we're going to match Southampton's valuation of him, so not going to get a bid accepted.

Don't quote me on this but I have it on good authority that as soon as we won the league, Klopp and Ljinders's stock was at it's highest. As part of Klopp's new contract, he was given more power on all decisions at the club.

As a result, he and Ljinders were overruling a lot of decisions put forward to them. Hendo and Milner contract extensions, signing Thiago, rejecting certain targets. Edwards left, Ward comes in and finds himself to be in the same exact position where he doesn't really have any influence. Same with Graham. When 3 people leave in quick succession, something is definitely off behind the scenes.

All of the journalists have now said that Klopp is now running everything. And it shows - scattergun transfer policy, stale tactics coaching (probably because he is doing too much).

rumours. he said after 10 years he wanted a rest.

he's not worked since so anyone with nose out of joint and a it of ambition would have taken another role to prove he's right.

reality is he was a small part of the infamous transfer committee and promoted on klopps approval when klopp arrived. he got more opportunities than anywhere else but hasn't used those rep point anywhere.

edwards was last linked to the European giants of London.... West ham but didn't get the job.

Where's Julian Ward now? ajax. that won't go well.

this is one of the biggest clubs in Europe but revenues. top 10 in the world.

nobody in role, certainly these no marks have no place. the first job for John Henry if he is not selling is to hire a real sporting director.

Metropolitanos in the Venezuelan Premier League..

... Just being an arse, I've no idea how they're structured.

Sorry, I'm not saying that Klopp should have no say but he should not have the overriding say. We were worked as a collective behind the scenes - several of our title winning squad were not Klopp's first pick.

But pretty much all of the continental clubs operate in this manner - they have a sporting director who assembles the team and the 'manager' is the first team coach.

The idea situation is where you have both the manager and the director working in sync with the same styles / ideologies. Which is what made us so good previously.
