Players have a value mate. That value may be different to seeking and buying clubs, **** happens.

If we think Lavia isn't worth £50m then I'd expect us not to pay it. The club might think Caicedo is better value for money.

I know I will audibly laugh-out-loud (redundancy in expression necessary) if we sign Caicedo.

I don't know who will be the bigger name in four years: Lavia or Caicedo but I think Chelsea would be better for Lavia as less pressure to start every week... And we're more in need of a ready made man like Caicedo.

I think it makes perfect sense Chelsea getting Lavia and us getting Caicedo.

I think they are both good players and would take either/or at Chelsea.
Thing is though, as Sucky already pointed out.....Liverpool wouldnt pay £100m for Bellingham but will cough up £100m for Caicedo, after quibbling with Southampton for weeks over whether Lavia is worth £50m or £46m?
I dont think our interest in Lavia is serious, nor is yours in Caicedo, I think the clubs are trying to dick each other over.

After "player-inflation" he's not really more than VVD, or Alison. I think FSG not willing to pay £100m for a 19y/o. Also Bellingham was before we got £60m+ surprise outgoing funds.

It's a tricky age because 19 year olds are at that stage that they're really developing into full adult bodies but still need to be careful with them to make sure don't cause them life-long injuries. We've had several overplayed teenagers over the years who paid the price. A teenager is always going to be a risk, FSG are very risk adverse.

With so many midfielders departing, whoever comes to us will be expected to play every week. Moses isn't much older, but he's old enough he probably can be utilized every week without worry of breaking him.

I have no problem with Lavia, he looks a promising young player, but he needs to go somewhere where he isn't expected to start every game.

It could be, as you say, just sportsmanship, rattling each other in rival bids... But I do think Lavia would be better off going to Chelsea... And Liverpool would be better off with Caicedo. As I said, that's not to say I have any clue which player will ultimately end up the better player... But more, who I think would be best places where.

Maybe both teams just trying to stall the transfers until we play each other at the weekend <laugh>
Neither of us want our opposition to have their weak points fixed before kick off.

In any case, I would take either player.

Im not sure that’s true. I think a lot of fans have changed their tune this season and are starting to get on their backs more.

I’ll put my hand up and say I’ve never had an issue with them. Could they invest more? Yes. Could they have re-built the stadium out of their pockets as they told the High Court in 2010 that they were going to do? Sure but wanted to make club self sufficient and it was working ok.

However the lack of investment from them is now hurting us and with a big rebuild promised it’s been a disappointing summer after it started so well with 2 early additions. They need to show commitment and some proper investment. Not talking 200m each summer but addressing key weaknesses and I think a lot of fans are feeling let down this summer by them.

Window isn’t over yet so we may get another CM and defender through the door but it’s not ideal start to the season

Fixed. <ok>

We were never getting Bellingham. I still to this day think we'd have never gone over £50m for Virgil or gone out and bought Ally had it not been for the Coutinho money, despite it being absolutely proven to be the best business we ever did under FSGs tenure.

I will be surprised, but not totally stunned if we bid £80-£100mill for Caicedo. If we do, they have a lot of confidence he's a sure-thing. They'll spend the cash on a sure-thing, they won't gamble on a big-purchase they're not 100% sure about.

personally I like the 2 thats come in and think people will love szoboszlai.

I don't buy the 7 out stuff. that includes a kid on loan we never played and firmino.

it's at best 5 and those 5 include ox and keita who were millstones.

so 3 in milner, henderson and fabinho left REALLY and 2 arrived thus far.

let's see what happens as I wanted klopp to have his 3 players (1 cb, 2cms) by start of preseason. we are going in with what we have for first 2 to 3 weeks anyway now and that's v chelsea and Newcastle away.

if we get 5 points from 9 at the start I think that will be good. really good. Two hard away games over.

we had 9 for 6 slots so imo klopps been looking at Elliott and Jones coming in for 2 years there. Henderson and fabinho going have caused him a big issue now but they will have to work on it.

Whoa, why not include Milner as well as his contract was up? So it's just Fab and Hendo who's gone. And we've replaced them with Dom and Mac, so this is great.

After all this, regardless of where he goes, watch him transfer and be mediocre as ****, what ya reckon? <laugh>

I don't think we'd throw ours into the mix so early anyway.
I've given up trying to even guess what your lot might do.
