Just dont agree It's an offer to salah commercially. He has no obligation to take it. Whereas the pressure is on lfc to make an offer. It would be all but impossible to explain to the fan base why you didnt make an offer before just selling his contract on.
Well, I tell you from my experience of wage negotiations ( a long time ago admittedly) - a negotiation requires that both sides are prepared to move from their initial position to reach a compromise. Otherwise it's no more than a demand that is either accepted or isn't.
If we cannot agree with Salah (what he wants and what we are willing to pay), there is a possibility of losing him. However, we cannot because other clubs are willing to pay much more better join them by paying him silly wages. If he is a committed he should should be reasonable with us too. Going to another clubs he may not be the the STAR he is with us in another club.
Thats fair enough for you or me. We are talking about a lad who in effect can ring up his agent and say go talk to Newcastle, city, cheslea or psg or even real and say 400k is the price i'm ready to go here. the only time we might get an offer is when we hand in notice. He's said its up to LFC he's ready to stay so he's put the ball firmly in the clubs court to make an offer. he can even now shrug and say they didn't offer what they knew was required and expect the fans to turn on the club not him. LFC's job here is to maximise return from this deal. You've massive shirt sales and image rights, you've golden boots left and right and you've every other player like it on nearly double the wages. Salah 200k Lewandowksi 350k Messi 500k neymar reputedly 600k per week min mbappe 400k ronaldo 500k mr sancho reputably 350k hazard 400k benzema 300k greizmann 600k coutinho 400k KDB 400k grealish 350k sterling 300k the fact is we have never been the best paying club but at this point we have a player in his prime demanding parity with his nearest rivals (andmany gorssly over paid no marks) The only thing not in salah's favour imo is age. If he was even 2 years yuonger he would be sought by all and sundry.
Ok - let's not go round in circles over it. We both know that whatever we can pay, someone else can offer more. If money is his sole criterion for deciding, then he's gone - if there are other considerations then perhaps not, but he'll have to lower the money expectations (if those reported are true, of course). Imo, FSG won't change the habit of a lifetime and break their structure for one player, no matter who. Do you think they will?
all true there. I think they can afford to throw 350k at the guy without breaking the bank. even if we look at city or PSG theres few stars on big big money and then a group on the rest of the money around about where we are actually paying at 200k or less. we actually have more players supposedly in the 150-200k mark than others.
It's being reported that Mohamed Salah is looking for £400k per week from Liverpool to extend his contract. This would represent a change to the current wage structure at the club and therefore negotiations are complex. In light of this news we have taken a look at what the reported player salaries are currently. Liverpool player salaries 2021/22 (Andrew Robertson's updated to include new contract) Spotrac Player Age Yearly Salary Weekly Salary Virgil van Dijk 30 £11,440,000 £220,000 Thiago 30 £10,400,000 £200,000 Mohamed Salah 29 £10,400,000 £200,000 Trent Alexander-Arnold 23 £9,360,000 £180,000 Roberto Firmino 30 £9,360,000 £180,000 Fabinho 27 £9,360,000 £180,000 Alisson Becker 29 £7,800,800 £150,000 Jordan Henderson 31 £7,280,000 £140,000 James Milner 35 £7,280,000 £140,000 Naby Keita 26 £6,240,000 £120,000 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 28 £6,240,000 £120,000 Sadio Mane 29 £5,200,000 £100,000 Joel Matip 30 £5,200,000 £100,000 Andrew Robertson 27 £5,200,000 £100,000 Diogo Jota 24 £4,700,000 £90,385 Joe Gomez 24 £3,900,000 £75,000 Takumi Minamino 26 £3,900,000 £75,000 Ibrahima Konate 22 £3,640,000 £70,000 Divock Origi 26 £3,120,000 £60,000 Kostas Tsimikas 25 £3,120,000 £60,000 Adrian 34 £3,016,000 £58,000 Neco WIlliams 20 £1,300,000 £25,000 Curtis Jones 20 £390,000 £7,500 Caoimhin Kelleher 22 £312,000 £6,000 According to this, MO Salah is currently on £200.00 a week 50% increase is going to make it £300.00 a week. Doctors and nurses and all others don't get 50% increase in their wages/salaries. I am not sure how far Liverpool are willing to go.The ball is in Salah's court.
with respect doctors and nurses can get 50% if they move. Now they might move countries but the same market forces exist NHS pays £33,000 a year on average to nurses. we are debating 350k a week here. but a nurse from india for example would be on about 3k a year in direct comparison. sorry but its irrelevant what a nurse gets salah can demand massive wages form several clubs round europe so holds the cards here. I fail to see how the ball is in anyone's court but LFC as LFC have not put anyhting in fornt of salah to accept or reject! he can't sign a blank bit of paper and send it onto the club to fill in. His agent aint rio ferdinand
If they haven't made an offer why are we even talking about it? Surely we need something to go on before formulating opinions? An uninformed opinion is useless.
We are discussing salah saying its up to the club. “If you ask me, I would love to stay (at Liverpool) until the last day of my football career, but I can’t say much about that — it’s not in my hands. “It depends on what the club want, not on me. At the moment I can’t see myself ever playing against Liverpool. That would make me sad. It’s hard, I don’t want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad.” Its clear its in the clubs hands to make an offer.
So we come full circle to start of our difference of opinion - and it's pointless taking that any further. Obviously they will make an offer at some point, so if and when we get to hear what it is we'll have more to go on.
The other dimension to this, which I haven't read too much discussion about (though perhaps I've missed it) is the timescale. Mo's current contract runs out at the end of next season, by which time he'll be 31. How long would we want to have him tied down for? Pace certainly isn't the only thing to his game, but it's a significant asset. He's being touted as the best player in the world - I think there'll be others who'd have a say in that, but there's no doubt he's bloody brilliant right now - but for how long? Again, I'm not trying to do him down, I'm just asking the questions that the club will be asking when assessing his value. It's probably an unpopular line of enquiry whilst everyone is riding the tide of euphoria over his current form, but I'm playing Devil's Advocate here. The long-term health of the club is every bit as important as the now.
good question. This is really the crux of it. At 27 this is no brainer. 5 years. then its done. At 29 headed for 30 then 5 years could be a millstone round our necks in 3 years or 4 years time. It is a concern as his name requires pace. he runs in behind. if defenders can catch him he is toast. I totally agree we should be thinking about this. he will no doubt want as long as possible but we would maybe want 4? years on the new deal. one thing we could do is give an option for 5th year so we can decide at the time if he's worth it.
This has been an impediment to agreement in the past. Was it Can who wanted longer than we were prepared to give him? Anyway, like Coutinho, Suarez, Sterling etc he was someone we've somehow managed to live without.
