I think the Milner transfer is a good start we need experience and it's a free transfer. We also have plenty of wages made available by some high earners going.
I have my concerns that Rodgers won't sign the players we need CB, CM, CF and quality signings in these positions.
Milner though is agoid player and adds to the quality of the squad.

Ha. I now remember why I left this forum 2 years ago. Milner was played in most big matches by Pellegrini. He was trusted by his manager and team mates. He's exactly what we need with Gerrard leaving. See you in 2 years....

Luckily for me, I don't remember you from before.

And how many of those games does he actually impact? That was my original point.

He's trusted by his teammates (the top class players) to carry the water for them and do the graft. I have no problem with that but we have enough workhorses in the team.

Now that I've cooled down, I don't mind Milner in the squad but who will he replace in the starting line up - Hendo or Can? ... I just don't think he will have the impact most people are expecting. I think he will replace Can based on his reluctance to use him initially, and his love for Henderson and all things British.

I do have an issue with offering him £140k plus is sickening considering Coutinho, Sakho, Can and even Sterling are all on less.

There is no way he's worth that much.

I think It's important that he can replace either, Henderson has been poor at times and can't just expect to play. He can also come in for Coutinho who does tend to fade later in the game. There's plenty of room for him with Gerrard gone and he'll certainly make players fight for a position, he also adds a bit of age, understanding and experience to the dressing room.

And excitement too <diva>

I have to say I'm pretty much with Jimmy on this one. Not a bad signing but hardly one to inspire....basically we have a new Dirk.
Surrounded by better players he'll do a good job but he will only work out if he's the first signing of many good signings (what are the chances of that?). Can't complain if we do get him especially as hes on a free but not expecting him to push us on for top four.

I feel the same, he's a good signing nothing more, as long as we still move for other targets I'm happy with him as an addition.

Basically I think we'll all be happy with him but only if we strengthen around him. The big issue isn't signing Milner, it's that most of us don't trust the committee/Rodgers to make another 4 or 5 really good signings.

Yeah, the Ings transfer is what's making that a bigger worry it makes no sense We have Studge, Origi and we want a quality player to go with them, Sinclair will then do as cover so why buy Ings?

You don't need a big name manager to attract top players. You just need realistic trophy potential, a warchest of money so they know more top class players will be bought consistently, and top tier wages on offer.

the top4 offer all of that and have attracted and bought class even with no name managers.
