You don't need a big name manager to attract top players. You just need realistic trophy potential, a warchest of money so they know more top class players will be bought consistently, and top tier wages on offer.

the top4 offer all of that and have attracted and bought class even with no name managers.

I agree, although I would also say that a big name can help at times. If we improve and get top 4 on a regular basis then Rodgers will be able to attract top players, it is a bit more difficult at this point.

What's the point in signing Milner? We finally get Johnson and Gerrard off the books, let's sign another ageing English midfielder on high wages. I think if he was a few years younger it would of made sense. He's past the prime of a winger, so I'm assuming we're buying him for CM, in which case he's a more experienced Henderson.

We couldn't attract Sanchez last year despite offering him a better deal.

Reason being - he would prefer working under Wenger than Rodgers.

Rodgers has no pull.

The reason was:
Arsenal have trophy potential and had just won a trophy
Arsenal are permanent fixtures in the CL
Arsenal have a much publicised 'warchest' that they're using to buy at the top end of the market and high wages
Arsenal have more revenue to keep the warchest and wages rolling
Arsenal are in London

Even if we swapped managers, only a complete fool would pick Liverpool over Arsenal now. A couple of years ago, no. Now, absolutely.

The welcome is a little premature perhaps but this shows how much Milner has in his locker.
Scores all sorts of goals, two good feet, good vision, pace, experience etc.

Johnson is a defender* not a midfielder <whistle>

*I use the term loosely.

I agree to some degree but what comes first?. We are not in that position and nor are we likely to be anytime soon as it stands......but if you make all things equal, would you rather play for proven managers at the highest level or Brendan Rogers?

look.... lets glance back.

villa had downing, milner and young.

of the 3 my opinion was downing was the worst... milner was best and most flexible and young was over rated... but fast.

as it transpires milner had the best move and best career, and longest england one too.

young ended up injured and now the next richardson by played rb. milner plays cm or wing for city. downing was a huge flop.

this is milner moving to play.. we hope. we hope his legs aint gone and if city really are offering him a big deal to stay it gives me hope

I do have to say, if that were a foreign player there would be a lot more excitement. Milner will not cure our ills, but he's a damn sight better than Allen

its the all now or nothing attitude.

we are on a long long road lads.. have some faith.

everyone is working to improve

milner at least would improve us as allen is a waste of a shirt at the top 4 level we seek

I think a comparison between Allen and Milner is a difficult one. They are very different players.

If Allen is to remain at the club I want to see him more in the Lucas role, its when he tries to push further forward that he looks
out of his depth. No real pace, won't go past players etc.

Milner gives opposing midfields and defences a real problem. Really pleased with this signing (if it happens)

Milner's worst position is better than Allen's best position, however you look at it. Allen is so mediocre it's unreal, hope we get rid of him along with Borini, another failure of BR's first shocking summer of signings
