To be fair Liverpool made the announcement last year and they’ve kept their word on their staff. If they entered into a contract 2 years ago and it’s a 5 year deal then not much they can do about it until contract is up for renewal

That’s simply not true though. They could choose to increase what they’re paying to cover the increase in rate.

I doubt they'd even accept that if LFC offered. Then they'd have to keep two sets of accounts, those workers subsided by LFC and those not, and it would encourage the non-LFC staff to ask for equality.

It would be better to just announce now no renewal will be considered.

That would have a big knock on effect for the company as employers. Plus, there is no way of knowing that extra money gets passed on.

I think Solid may have already answered this but this statement by you is untrue. Actually the whole comment is untrue.

Only 4 PL clubs have signed up to the RLW campaign - Liverpool being one of them - making them the only 4 clubs to agree to pay all staff the higher rated 'real living wage' [RLW] as opposed to just the minimum living wage.

All staff employed by LFC get at least the minimum living wage and have done for years. Staff employed directly by them have been getting the higher rated RLW. In order to get the Living Wage Foundation [LWF] accreditation, which is what they signed up for in November, they have [as I understand] 3 years to get all sub contracted workers up to the RLW standard. Bearing in mind this only started June 2018 they are hardly dallying in getting it sorted. LFC and West Ham were only picked out because reporters found casual jobs advertised by the subcontractors they use, in LFC's case [Stadium TM] at minimum wage level and not RLW level.

While the other 16 clubs couldn't care less that their staff only get minimum living wage and are not even interested in trying to get accredited and raising wages to the RLW, you pick out Liverpool for showing ''poor form'' :emoticon-0113-sleep

What's a good wage though?

Can't get to a point where a steward, cleaner or waiting on member of staff is being paid more than, for example, a police (wo)man on the streets before/during/after the game. Pay scales with either responsibility or skill (for the most part) and has to be comparable to other similar jobs too; why should a cleaner at LFC be paid more than a cleaner at say John Lewis or a library? Same job.

My only requirement would be that for the hours actually at the premises (none of this traveling pay crap) they get paid the working pay rate. I don't think that's a huge ask for the club to organise with the contractors they deal with.

I think some people are getting confused with the minimum living wage and the real living wage [which is a higher hourly rate]. All clubs should be paying their workers the minimum living wage - isn't it required by law?

Liverpool along with Everton, Chelsea and West Ham signed up to an agreement to give these lowest paid workers the new 'real living wage' rate. Presumably Everton and Chelsea are doing this; Liverpool and West Ham got picked out because of what I said above - subcontractors they use are still advertising jobs at the minimum living wage rate [which they are perfectly entitled to do] but the problem then arises should LFC and WH be using these subcontractors who are paying the lower wage rate and not the real living wage rate when they, as clubs, have just signed up to an agreement.

How do we know whether EFC ensure that their subbies pay the RLW, probably not unless they have renewed their contracts since they agreed to RLW.

Ask Tobes, he knows everything. Although tbf he seems to know a lot more about LFC than EFC :bandit:

Joking aside, according to the Echo, Everton and Chelsea are both already accredited by the LWF and have 3 years to bring all sub-contracted staff up to RLW. So the chances are they could still have some staff not on RLW yet but are working towards it ... and aren't still advertising jobs for the minimum living wage.
