Lampard will either be a hero or a failure in his first job, same doesn't really apply to Gerrard. Very few, if any, in England are bothered about Scottish football so he gets to try out management away from the spotlight. Give it a go where he can't mess up promotion or relegation in, say the Championship, then when he's got a bit of experience under his belt, come back and have a proper go with a Championship or lower prem side.
Since Rangers got wound up after the tax scandal and the new co started off in the bottom Scottish tier they sacked Ally McCoist(a Rangers legend)after gaining two successive promotions and had a few relatively unknowns in the managers chair, managers don't last long there these days and the fans are demanding success every season despite them now being also-rans with next to no money to spend.
Compared to Lampard Gerrard took a backward step, but if he manages to break Celtic's stranglehold on success up there
