It's not about business sense though Jatt, it's about keeping an agreement and keeping their word, they were all for rebuilding the Anfield Rd end until the supporters complained about the extortionate prices they put on certain seats in the new stand.
In other words they were cheekily prepared to let the supporters pay for the new Anny Rd stand instead of FSG themselves.
Fair enough, cannot complain with that <ok>

They've just strengthened their financial muscle with the Chinese partnership though haven't they dribs?
In which case they can afford not to sell him anyway.
IF they sell, it will only be because they believe it won't serve the team well.

If I were them I'd wait out this window and hold onto them. Then speak to the player, tell him to buckle up and earn a move for next year (no doubt with the figures suggested he won't be happy on his current salary).

His agent needs sacking though.

I'm perhaps the only one on here, I think, who literally did give up on VVD the second we said we'd withdrawn our interest. Only if Soton back down on selling at all can I see even the faintest hope, which is a pity as he's head and shoulders the best CB in the league - damn sight better than what we have now, even Matip.

IF they are forced to sell - 5% if that) I don't go with this thing that they 'won't' sell to us though: IF we match other bids and IF VVD is insistent on coming to us then Soton will find they're on a very sticky wicket re contract law. However, City and Chelsea may well go up to £70/£80m without flinching, but we'll not go that far even with possible Coutinho money.

Moot point though - they're just not selling, and I hope we have their backbone.

Spurs had £40m bid accepted by Ajax for Sanchez. Looked very good in Europa final. 21 yr old, strange they're strengthening an area where already strong though.

Dont know a lot about him but from what I gather no, he's a big strong CB. Guess if they're going 3 at the back then need a 3rd to play alongside Vert and Alder.

Yeah...i would be wondering that they want diet to either go or play cm again which then raises question on dembele or wanyama.

They end up with 3 strong cbs, potentially then 3 string cms...wimmer is in reserve as is winks.

Nope You are not the only one.

I am sure that lfc ran like scalded cats and I saw a story that fsg had told klopp there was no way they were going back. We keep hearing sajnt hace to invite us to bid or sonething so we will see.

I am 100% certain however that city and Chelsea are sniffingnonly for a cheapish price so we will see.

That's what good clubs do - they don't settle and they have solid succession planning.

This could pave the way for Wimmer to leave (potentially to Soton) which then could pave the way for VVD to leave ... Soton are also close to signing some lazio defender as well.

Southampton’s new Chinese owners have no plans to inject additional capital into the business or spend money on new players. (@TimesSport)

Mauricio Pellegrino is aware of the situation and has been told not to expect any additional transfer funds this month. (@TimesSport)

This could affect the club’s determination to keep hold of Virgil van Dijk amid interest from Liverpool and Chelsea. (@TimesSport)

I just don't see us signing anyone. Klopp yesterday basically confirmed this too.

The whole waiting for champions league is bullsh!t too, Arsenal signed Lacazette and last year utd spent big money. We are the ones who cant seem to sign anyone if we are in it or not.

We are well short imo.

Especially with the extra games.

Atm look set for a bang average season.

I also have that horrible feeling. I don't want to believe it though....surely we will can't just buy who we have??
