To be fair a lot of people are claiming that we need to go out and get a world class striker, but the problem is that there are not that many world class strikers out there, you can be sure wenger has a lot of contacts in football and will be aware who is available, and who would be out of our price range. Could be that this so called world class striker is not available or out of our price range. We have already spent 30+ million, im not sure we can afford to pay out 50 - 60 million on another player. So rather than do nothing, like last season, wenger has decided to take a risk, personally I think its a risk worth taking unless we can get one of these world class strikers everyone keeps talking about. Morata is to expensive at the prices being quoted.

Wenger spent £42 million on Ozil the Summer after Cazorla just had a fantastic Season at Arsenal playing the AMF role. We also had Ramsey, Wilshere and Rosicky in the side - We did not NEED Ozil.

Spending 30-50 million on a Benzema/Higuian/Aubamayang/Cavani - would be worth every penny. Its something we DO need. We create the most chances.. have the most possession .. play an attacking style..yet score less than our rivals. It literally makes NO sense we don't have a forward of that calibre already.

With the style of football we play (high line etc..) I don't think Wenger will ever win the league without a elite striker in the side.

If this move actually materialises, I genuinely will believe Wenger has self-imploded and lost whatever rational judgement he had left in him.

I don't think I can stress enough how disappointed I will be if Jamie facking Vardy becomes an Arsenal player.

Don't care how many goals he scored last season. I simply don't rate him as a footballer.

Please do not let this happen for crying out loud.

I am with you on this one! Almost like I rather play Walcott in the middle if we want someone to be quick.

But if it does happen then I hope it is not the only forward we will get....but the chance of buying two CF is not big, at all.

Walcott simply cannot play that CF role. Vardy has proved he can do it by scoring against almost every premier league team.

What more do you want a striker to do other than score nearly 30 goals per season ?

My feeling is that some people aren't keen on Vardy because he's a bit of an unfashionable signing. If he had a name like Jamaria Vardacious and was banging in 30 goals in La Liga, people would be cumming in their pants about him.

The more I think about this signing the more it makes sense. Last season we created the most chances out of all the PL teams, but we had one of the worst conversion rates, that tells us that we have all the players we need to create chances and get the ball into the box, we just lack a finisher. Vardy can play that role perfectly .

Darren Bent and Kevin Phillips have actually (rather than nearly) scored 30 goals in the Premier League. Doesn't mean they would have been good signings for us...

For the record, last season was the only season Vardy got more than 20 goals outside of non-league. And if we're being honest, everything went right for him and everything was set up perfectly for the way he plays. So unless we're going to become a regular counter-attacking team, the move really doesn't make any sense. Besides, he has no track record of being a prolific goalscorer.

That being said, I'd be happy with Vardy being signed if we were also getting another striker. But that is highly unlikely to happen. So if we are going to be in for a striker, I'd rather it be for someone else.

And this is also absolute rubbish, by the way <ok>

Why wouldn't they have been ? Again, unfashionable names, but proven goalscorers.

Lots of rumours in Germany that Arsenal have made an official approach for Mkhitarian.

Certainly not a position we needed to strengthen but the guy is an absolute animal. 23 goals and 15 assist last Season.

Soo far...

-------------------------Cech-------------------------
Bellerin------BFG------Koscielny-----Monreal
--------------Xhaka-------Carzorla-----------------
--------------------------Ozil---------------------------
----Mkhitarian-------Vardy--------Sanchez-----

Possibly also the addition of Rodriguez at left back. Would still love a Top class finisher and a big centreback like Koulibali. But that's a pretty strong looking side.

Your opinion is just that of course <ok>

People aren't upset about the prospect of Vardy coming to us simply because his name isn't exotic or because he looks like a chav. They are annoyed by it because he has no re-sale value if things don't work out and at the age of 29, won't realistically be improving that much. If Vardy was 4 / 5 years younger, I wouldn't be totally against this move. But for someone who is heavily reliant on pace and aggressive runs, his age is a concern. This, added to the fact that his overall goalscoring record isn't that impressive, are bigger factors in explaining people's uneasiness about this proposed move.

Because throughout the rest of their careers, they demonstrated their 25-30 goal seasons were once-offs. Flukes. They never hit anywhere near those figures again in their lives.

Also, Bent, for example, was a complete tap in merchant. He was useless at everything else apart from scoring from 5 yards out. Surely at Arsenal, you'd want a forward that can influence the game in other ways and helps us flow better, rather than someone who is only good for scoring tap-ins laid on a plate for him.
