Amy Lawrence-Guardian/Observer journalist & Arsenal fan-has said on 5 Live tonight that there is tension at Arsenal between Gazidis/board who want to spend big and Arsene Wenger.

So it's proof that we're being managed by an accountant. I owe Ivan an apology, if this is true, it turns out he's actually ambitious and wants to go places, but Wenger is content pocketing the 7 million a year (before bonuses) for finishing 4th.

Can we have the old hungry Arsene back, the one who would throw food at Fergie, and didn't see any incidents at all?

It's not proof it's just a journalist's opinion on a rumour

But you yourself tried to give credibility to it when questioned by saying she's close to the AST.

And anyway, if it is true (probably not, but let's assume for the sake of argument), does this mean the board are trying to overrule Wenger, and would that have any effect on his contract negotiations.

If the board are becoming too brave, he may not like it and refuse to re-sign.

I wasn't trying to give it credibility.I was just trying to give an assessment of Amy Lawrences' background.I also think she's a bloody good journalist but as a Guardian & Observer reader i'm probably a bit biased

So she's a bit of a lefty then...

I'll take what she says with a pinch of salt.
Why does being a Guardian journalist make her a lefty.
Jim White used to write for the Guardian now he writes for the Telegraph.Oliver Holt moved from the Times to the Mirror.Ian Ridley moved from the Observer to the Mail.Des Kelly moved from Mirror to the Mail.Do you think they all changed their political views because they changed papers ?

I thought it was a rule that you had to be a lefty nutter to write for the guardian? Anyone who is to write anything even slightly pro-right is taken outside and shot.

Amy Lawrence has often put a positive spin on Arsenal related news and has covered up stories that shows Arsenal in a negative light. For her to break a story like this shows how frustrated she is with out shabby transfer dealings, or lack of them. She isn't the only one.

Do you think that Ian Ridley changed from being a lefty nutter to a right wing racist who supports fascism ?

To be fair, that's exactly what Mel Phillips and Peter Hitchens did...

Saying that, there are plenty who cross the divide and retain their political beliefs. Supposedly many Mail journalists have strong left-wing credentials.

Liberals - yes; proper lefties - seriously debatable.

I only found out the other week that Melanie Philips was Joshua Rosenberg's wife

Some talk of Bernard preferring Porto over us, and with the Suarez situation as it is, are we actually going to sign someone this summer?

I was thanking the same thing, what on earth is happening with this so called Bernard rumour, actually any to be frank. All we're getting is Suarez speculation at the moment, which isn't making any progress either. August here we come.....

Will they really have the audacity to commence the Emirates Cup with no signings of note after all the recent rhetoric? I have a feeling something will happen this week, if not I can almost hear the cries of "Spend some ****ing money" already . . .

Actually I believe Amy is spot on.
I have said this many times on these boards our lack of spending has not been purely down to financial restriction.

If you dont believe Wenger does'nt like spending money on transfers you are in complete denial.

The man has admitted as much in NUMEROUS interviews.

He doesn't like to overspend. He has always said he would spend money for the right player.

Tbh most of the noise we ever hear from anyone remotely attached to AST includes some anti Wenger, or Wenger won't spend content.

I'd take this rumour with a pinch of salt - sounds like the Bould and Wenger at each others throats stuff - totally blown out of proportion from a non-story.

It's not so much that he doesn't want to spend money, more that he doesn't want to take big risks or spend more than he feels a player is worth. Problem is:

- The current risk level of Arsenal spending big, if the transfer budget is to be believed, is pretty low (and is certainly far lower than it has been for a number of years);
- What he feels a player is worth is only half the story.

I'll be sorely disappointed if nobody is brought in over the summer, but as it isn't August yet I'll wait before getting sectioned over it.

You lot are a bunch of panicking women... Have you heard yourselves?

Look at the size of our current suqad compared to previous years, the money available and the consistent attempts to trim our squad even further - it is obvious to me that we do have signings lined up and that we are confident of bringing in a couple of players at least.
