Good point and although we need our forwards to score goals, if we want to win the league Sanchez etc.. need to be more consistent Well partly wages. We have HUGE squad right now and tend to pay our fringe players very well. Personally think we offload a few.. Sanogo and Sczezney for a start.
Don't forget the wages saved on Rosicky,Arteta etc.now has to be spent on Xhaka,Mustafi etc.and don't forget we also added Elneny in January
That's true - but while we still had FlamRosTeta we supposedly still had money and were reassured we still had a significant war chest - it shouldn't all have been taken up by Elneny (hardly a player who demanded a top, top transfer fee or wages), Xhaka, Mustafi and Perez ohh and Holding for £2m. I mean West Ham spent more on their striker than we did on ours (not comparing the two for quality)! We are supposed to be one of the top clubs in the country - one of the top 4, consistently qualifying for the CL and getting money from that - we got the most TV money last season. Yet, while all our close rivals spend and push the boat out (Spurs excepted) either this season or last we're saying we can't afford a striker worth more than £17m!
Really? That is good news, I thought he was out until October/November time at least! Will be good to have him back and ready to give Bellerin a rest and play in the cups. Hopefully he can then start pushing Bellerin and we can rotate a bit in the second half of the season.
In Arsenal terms, a solid yet not top drawer window. In regular big club terms, the bare minimum. I will take it because it's more than we usually spend, and we have technically addressed the problem positions. I feel a bit sour we didn't have any one big world class pogba-type signing though.
I agree. Whilst we didn't see the big marquee striker we'd hoped for. Was that ever going to be realistic given that Higuain went for £89m ? Overall I think Wenger has done well to get a two really good CBs, a combative DM and a striker. We should be in much better shape this season now.
Given that our requirements from the outset were for a CB (- we got two), a CF and a DM, then it has been a success. On the other hand, media speculation generally linking us with everybody, as usual, a lot of disquiet about the nature of Arsenal's (Arsene's) transfer policy, the fact that some other clubs, not all, have spent bucket loads on players we may have liked to have seen join us, leaves a whiff of disappointment in the air. This coupled with the wretched start to the season has left both the players and Wenger under extra pressure to perform to the level that many of us now demand. Whatever happens this season, this transfer window has added massive weight to the argument that Wenger should step aside as the team manager at the end of the season and open up a chance for a younger and more imaginative coach. I think we now have a squad that can present a decent challenge for silverware. It's up to Wenger and the players to really believe that too.
There's a linked in group that I follow that has a few people who seem more 'in the know' than most about Arsenal. One of them mentioned we might be trying to get a wide player in on deadline day - probably unlikely but Rodriguez could be that player. He's been loosely linked to us all summer...
Seems like a good window. This is the first time in years we haven't gone into a new Season sufficiently short in one area. I don't really care if the signings are 'big names' or not. It's all about how they fit into the side. Perez is the only real question mark and it will be interesting to see how he does in the EPL. Xhaka will walk straight into the side. The guy has real quality. Mustafi should fit in nicely (my only concern is his height) and Holding looks like a proper defender.(I just hope he gets enough games)
He would do better at Spurs, Everton or Liverpool. (edit.. now that I re-read this I think you meant to post this on the Spurs board) We have too much competition now in that position. Xhaka, Carzorla, Wilshere, Coquelin, Elneny, Ramsey..
There is nothing wrong with Bastian, he is still a great player when fit. His problem with us is that LvG brought him in and played him ahead of Herrera and Schneiderlin (which should never have happened), now we also have Pogba in midfield there is a big surplus of players there. I expect to see Carrick phased out this season also but at the moment he is more valuable to the manager because of his experience with the club and the staff.
What if the #madness actually happens.. --------------------------Cech------------------------- Bellerin-----Mustafi----Koscielny------Monreal --------------Xhaka--------Carzorla---------------- ---------------------------Ozil-------------------------- ----Rodriguez---Perez/Giroud----Sanchez---- Bench: Ramsey, Mertesacker, Coquelin, Walcott/Wellbeck, Iwobi, Ospina Squad players: Wilshere, Chamberlain, Holding, Jenkinson etc.. Would that win us the league?
