Hah. Even Cavani was a stretch, but at least his net salary currently can't be as high as Falcao's at Monaco. Not healthy to go into the deadline with such expectations.
In the last couple of days I've seen us linked to: CBs: alderwiereld, agger, manalos DM: carvalho, khedira, song CF: cavani, falcao, insigne, Welbeck With other names like remy, bony, gustavo also popping up on twitter and the forum. Seems we are linked with tons of players at the moment. There's less than a week to go before deadline day and I think we will definitely see signing(s). Ideally we'd get cavani or falcao plus khedira and any of the CBs from the players we've been linked to recently. Highly unlikely but I'm excited to see what happens. Won't be the end of the world if we only add squad depth to a couple of positions but our recent transfer activity means I'll stay optimistic until the window closes!
Falcao is allegedly on 300k tax free at Monaco. Arsenals top earner is on roughly 150k with 40% tax. If they offered that to Falcao he'd have to take almost a 75% pay cut to join Arsenal.
Remy would be terrible. We've already got average small strikers so why bother with him? Bony at least would add some power to the side but he's not going to be cheap. There will now be a desperate Arsenal tax of +50% and we know how belligerent Arsene can be, he just won't pay if he thinks he's being screwed. Cavani? Falcao?! Don't make me laugh. I'll happily eat my words but I'm thinking no ****ing chance!
Radio 5 live were talking about a loan deal, apparently the player has said that he would be open to spending a year at Arsenal.
I'm with you on this one, sounds like a ridiculous story considering it's us. I can understand one of the mega bucks clubs but we are more astute than shelling £20m on a player on just a one year loan. Does this even include his astronomical wage bill? Also I agree, no point in Remy when we already have similar type players in Campbell and Walcott, who I would prefer to start in the CF position. Bony i'd go for as he would offer something similar to Giroud but with even more power. Though he is still a little rough around the edges compared to Giroud. But realistically, these are the types of players we will go for now.
Some Serbian paper claiming we're signing him. He's 34 and not good enough for Birmingham any more...
Falcao would be incredible. Such a brilliant player. But Wenger has come and stated he 'will not panic buy' and that 'we can cope without Giroud'. So I think its unlikely he will sign anyone unfortunately. At this point I would take Wellbeck or even Remy (who I'm not a fan of).
20m for Falcao is for one year of his services including his wages @ 300k/wk, plus bonuses, plus loan fee. No chance.
To be honest, i don't think we will get a striker. If Wenger thought our striker depth was ok before, why would it be a problem for him now? If he's trying Sanchez in the middle, then he theoretically has Sanchez, Walcott, Pod and Campbell who he can pick from to play in the middle. His priority before was a CB, and he will get one in. I don't see a striker or DM coming in at all.
This doesn't surprise me in the least. Its more to do with what we want and not what will realistically happen. All we will get is a CB.
I guess we'll be seeing a lot more of Sanogo this season.. Or Sanchez will be constantly played out of position
