He's 27, never even attracted any Ligue 1 sides and failed a trial with Bolton a few years ago. Hardly the makings of a star
It's hardly only this rumour that I'm talking about. Little over a week left till the season starts and the club has signed a Ligue 2 striker on a free, made 2 bids on a player we've no chance of signing and ended up with a positive net transfer spend yet again.
That's about the only positive thing to happen this transfer window, with all due respect to Yaya Sanogo.
David Ornstein of the BBC has Tweeted that Arsenal never put a bid in for Higuain.Apparently terms were agreed with him but Arsenal pulled out to prioritise a bid for Suarez
Can anyone explain why we've got rid a load of players that were deemed "not good enough" for Arsenal, only to bring a bunch of **** players back in? Am I missing something or is this some sort of tragic comedy. Damn I miss the days when we had Dein. Now that guy wouldn't allow the kind of **** that is happening right now regarding transfers, whether you like the guy or not.
Yep and I'm wrong to call the club incompetent for leaving everything late! (19 first squad players with 8 days till the league starts, lol) Reminder, to have anything close to a squad with good depth we'll practically need to sign a player about every 4-5 days now till the remainder of the window... not even talking about quality. And he'll still go on about "other clubs moved too quickly" and thus quality players are less available, followed by "we will buy if there is quality". Yep those two things don't work against each other at all. I'll say it again even if we did get Suarez, this transfer window will have been a failure if we don't also get a good cover CB, a DM that would walk into the first team, a versatile winger good enough to make the left wing his own.
Given that you find it so easy to buy and sell players, and/or run a scouting network, you probably should be setting out in a career as a manager. Here is a link to the coaching pathway so that you can get qualified to manage a football club. http://www.thefa.com/GetIntoFootball/FALearning/FALearningPages/ResidentialCourses#pathway Just doing it as a service to you, so that you can make use of the talent you obviously have for this.
Right, TT school of thought: We didn't finish a deal before August because we'd have to pay a 20 Mil premium... Stupid Spurs, they could have gotten Soldado for 6mil had they waited another month.
You have to excuse my sarcasm but I just find your tone amusing. It is the absolute certainty you have that your expectations are reasonable and that it is only through extreme incompetence that Wenger and Arsenal aren't meeting them. Your confidence in your own opinion is so great, that the facts that point to your expectations being the problem, are completely ignored. I have absolutely no idea what is going on, and I am really comfortable saying that. It is way too late to sack the manager, and so let's just watch what happens. Just take a pill and relax, and don't expect anything, you will be much happier. Oh and stop trying to read my mind - that's spooky.
I did relax for two months or so, in fact my expectations were and are still low. But I have enough information to base my opinion on now, and it's a pretty unspectacular opinion, don't know why you or afcftw think my stance is so out there. With how close the beginning of the league is, it can in no way be said that this transfer window was handled competently. I never said they were incompetent last year in the transfer window, because (at that point) rvp situation was out of their hands. They had almost completed 3 good transfers (in the final stages at least) by then, but the guy was intent on leaving.
The constant apologist speaks . The bare faced way in which you constantly defend incompetence is truly astonishing . I dont see other managers bleating about how hard it is , they just get on with it . I guess if you pay peanuts ..........no wait , hes on 7 million quid aint he ? oh yeah . Wenger ............pffft .
Wenger is going to have to pull something pretty special out of the hat to save this transfer window. I will reserve judgement until the window slams shut and my hope is that we're doing the majority of our deals behind the media smokescreen that is suarez, but I do have to admit I'm getting worried that this will turn into the window where we missed ALL of our targets.
Well the longer it takes the more external factors weigh in. The success will depend more and more on the plans of others. Liverpool's owner made a very pragmatic point in what is wrongly being interpreted as an emotional stance... they have no time to find a suitable replacement so they won't sell. Many other clubs will be in the same position the longer it goes.
I have absolutely no idea how anyone can say that this transfer window has been anything but incompetent up to this point. We don't have the facts of pursuits or enquiries, but we do have this: Date - 9th August Out - Loads In - Sanogo That's all you need to know how utterly terrible this summer has been so far.
It has been poor, no doubting it. We can only hope, as PISKIE says, that there is a lot going on behind the scenes. If all efforts are being directed towards the Suarez business then it's both a huge risk due to it's uncertainty and, if it's the only deal made this summer, not enough.
However I'll reserve my judgement as to how the team will fare next season until the season is fully underway. Here's hoping Wilshere stays injury free, The Ox steps up and is used more, and both Podolski and Giroud have a more solid second season.
