You're either paying Salah, VVD and Trent with big bumper pay increases, or you're paying replacements big bumper fees. One or the either. There is no reality where they leave on frees and you don't replace them. And even if they renew, VVD and Salah need replacing within the next 2-3 years anyway so you're still be paying big to replace them. Again, there's no reality where you replace them with youth or freebies and hope to maintain your current level. You have plenty of money. Your first XI cost £472m adjusted for inflation. Arsenal's only cost £408m. City's cost £556m. The idea that we should stop spending when our team was assembled for less money than you, or that you 'don't have any money' is nonsense.
of course we will spend in the summer as revenue will be up due to Anfield Rd end finally being finished plus the extra CL money in fact splurge followed by drought seems quite a common theme of our transfer dealing .However we basically break even over 2-3 years (though next accounts will presumably show a loss due the costs associated with new stand) as we run a tight financial ship . Just find your constant buying of players under Arteta a bit OTT particularly his love of defenders ,
Season before really challenging Arsenal (21/22) - £167m spent (no good squad assets to offset this against) (£136m net spend) - finish 5th Liverpool (17/18) - £170m spent (offset by fortuitous sale of Coutinho funded by PSG billions) (no net spend) - finish 4th First season challenging Arsenal (22/23) - £180m spent (net £160m) - 2nd Liverpool (18/19) - £180m spent (net £140m) - 2nd Second season challenging Arsenal (23/24) - £235m spent (net £165m) -2nd Liverpool (19/20) - no real signings - 1st Third season challenging Arsenal (24/25) - £109m spent (net £29m) - probably 2nd Liverpool (20/21) - £85m spent (net £65m) - 3rd Fourth season challenging Liverpool 21/22 - £90m spent (net £60m) - 2nd Fifth season challenging Liverpool 22/23 - £145m spent (net £65m) - 5th Sixth season challenging Liverpool 23/24 - £172m spent (net £111m) - 3rd Seventh season challenging Liverpool 24/25 - £42m spent (net zero) - probably 1st Why do Liverpool continue to spend hundreds of millions season after season? Surely it has to stop? Arsenal's squad has almost entirely been built since 21/22 at a net spend of about £480m. Liverpool's squad has been assembled since about 17/18 at a net spend of about the same amount. Similar money spent on squads that aren't too dissimilar - Although ours is valued at about £200m more than yours because of the ages of your best players. So we've spent net a bit more than you and have a squad worth a bit more than yours. Plus your spending and squad building has benefitted from a huge cash injection from PSG via Barcelona in 2017/18 which financially doped the transfer market for you for a season. Why would our spending need to stop anymore than yours?
we're not losing money you are - though as i said earlier the next accounts will presumably be in the red due to costs of Anfield end and have no idea why you lot keep going on as if the Coutinho money wasn't ours to spend . In the last 5 years transfarkt have you spending over 200m euros more than us .
Yes, but you’re five years further ahead than us too. And our squad is worth £200m more than yours. And ultimately I don’t really care anyway. We’re not going bust and neither are you. Spend whatever the **** you want. Who cares. We both just want to win things and play good football. And we really want to win at least SOMETHING. But I couldn’t give a **** about spending.
Cunha and Sesko apparently. That would be sick.. -------------------------------------Raya/Neto-------------------------------------------- White/Timber-----Saliba/White------Gabriel/Calafiori----Calafiori/Tomiyasu ----------------------------------Zubimendi/Rice---------------------------------------- -----------Odegaard/Cunha-------------------------Rice/Havertz------------------- ----Saka/Jesus-------------Sesko/Havertz----------Martinelli/Cunha/Tross---
Well we needed to sign at least one attacker anyway. Vieira, Smith Rowe, Nelson, Nketiah out.... Sterling in. Doesn't add up. Saka and Jesus going AWOL have just meant we need that attacker more than ever, and ideally more than one.
I mean I think Arteta really wants Sesko and Zubimendi - but it had been planned for the Summer. I guess they are trying to get Leipzig to sell now and get the money from the Kroenkes - all without a real Sporting Director at the minute.
The Coutinho money was clearly yours to spend. But you got ridiculously lucky that a state run club pumped £200m into the transfer economy and Barca had to spend it SOMEWHERE. Up pop Liverpool with a sellable and expendable asset. And your squad (and net spend) is then set for ages. If PSR existed in PSG times and made that Neymar transfer impossible, you wouldn't have been able to build the squad you had so easily. Fortuitous and lucky timing.
Yes, but we still need another attacker on top of that. In the summer, our forward line will otherwise be: Saka Martinelli Havertz Trossard Nwaneri (Jesus) (Nelson) There's only one worldie goal threat in there, although Nwaneri suggests he might be there before too long as he has an eye for a goal. Nelson won't be with us in 25/26 so I'm not sure I count him and if Jesus' time is up, we need to replace him too.. So we've always needed a proper goal threat as well as one more proper worldie wing forward. Sesko can be the goal threat. But we still need a Nelson/Jesus replacement. 25/26 should be: Saka Martinelli Havertz Trossard Nwaneri Sesko Cherki/Williams
Arteta seems to love Jesus - unsure if he will leave. Seems to have an important role in the squad. (also who's gonna sign a guy halfway through ACL rehab) Also consider if Sesko arrives it frees up Havertz to cover multiple positions. Would love us to sign Cunha though (also strong links today) Havnt seen much of Cherki.
Cunha rumours growing. Loan him in now with guaranteed £45m summer fee, buy Neto permanently for £4m. In the Summer, make Cunha permanent and buy Sesko and Zubimendi. £170m all in. Squad sorted. Any three of seven from: Cunha Saka Martinelli Sesko Havertz Trossard Nwaneri Jesus, Partey, Jorginho, Zinchenko, Tierney and Nelson on the scrap heap. All but Jesus to be shown the door to bring PSR wages down. Get Jorginho back in a couple of years when he retires from playing, to join the coaching staff and eventually be future assistant manager and then manager. Bosh.
Seems like Zinchenko will be on the move. Felt like this was inevitable given his lack of minutes this season.
I was actually thinking about this too. My only guess is that he maybe didn't trust him to play there? Zinchenko's very good technically and is generally a superb passer of the ball, but he also has a tendency to give it away cheaply and he's not the most physical/athletic player. So, out of possession, I could see his deficiencies causing us issues in midfield, especially in counter-attacks and transitions. Arteta is very big on 'control' and he's probably not trusted in areas of the pitch where, as a CM, he'd be required to eat big spaces.
You know Havertz HAS actually been good enough this Season. If we had a WF on the left scoring goals with frequency - the striker debate wouldn't be a thing. 14 Goals and 4 assists - he works his socks off, he creates, hold up play is decent.. Ok so he misses at least on sitter every game but he gives alot to the side.
Seems like Arsenal are finally bidding for Sesko. If that fails - I think they will make a final day grab for Cunha and go back for Sesko in the Summer. Still could see this team in the future... -------------------------Raya-------------------------- White-----Saliba------------Gabriel-----Calafiori --------Zubimendi----------------Rice--------------- ------------------------Odegaard---------------------- Saka------------------Sesko-----------------Cunha
