Luke Garbutt from Everton is available on loan.

I'd prefer either an experienced left back or to sign a youngster permanently, but I imagine we'll be linked with Garbutt.
I agree that a permanent signing would be better, but Garbutt is highly rated. We could do a lot worse.

Does anybody know how good Garbutt actually is??? He only seems to have played four first team games for Everton and been part of a dreadful England u21 team

All I can say is that Everton fans rate him highly if their main forum Toffee Talk is anything to go by. Elsewhere I've also picked up that he's top notch at corners - which I'm sure all would agree has been a major weakeness in our set-up since Duff and Digger times.

A key factor however lies in the Everton boss being adamant that Garbutt's place has to be guaranteed:

"And whilst he believes Garbutt would flourish on loan at another Premier League club, Martinez insisted that he would only join a side that would guarantee first team football week in, week out. He added,"If not in the Premier League then we’ll find another team that suits exactly what he needs in order to develop.”

Bournemouth are very much on the radar, as are Villa but it's unlikely that Everton would send him to 'potential rivals'. Broadly I'm not keen on season long loans and certainly not those where our hands are tied. But, as ever, there are exceptions to every rule and there's no question we need a LB.

Few rumours floating around Twitter that Brighton have accepted a 4.5 million bid for Dunk and he's due at Fulham for a medical!!! Can't see it myself but hope it's true

Wiki are saying he plays for us, lets hope that is true!

Please tell me we're not pinning our hopes on Wikipedia and Twitter. I can literally just go on to Wikipedia now and change that so it says he plays running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I'm not pinning my hopes on twitter just pass on any rumours that pop up, to be honest you can often tell, the difference between a twitter rumour with substance and one which is rubbish. The one with substance comes out of a few sources and often gets lots of tweets very quickly where as the rubbish ones tend to come from one source and are much more of a slow burner, funnily enough this Dunk one is actually somewhere in the middle of that.

I searched Twitter for any decent source and it seems to be coming from somebody who has a 'mate that's close to the club'. I'll take it with a pinch of salt, especially considering the figures being mentioned in comparison to what we had initially offered (allegedly).

Well done Delph for turning down City. Maybe he can have a word with young Pat in tonight's game and explain the reasons why.
.
Delph has just signed for City today, for a reported £8 million. His spiel last week about how loyalty still exists in football was a load of rubbish which is a shame. Apparently £8 million was his buy out clause. Ridiculously low clause considering he only signed his contract in January. I said last week that putting in stupidly high buy out clauses was the way to go. I think Villa fans would agree. Liverpool have matched Benteke's buy out clause too, which in contrast is £32.5 million.

I wonder will this reignite Villa's interest in LVC. If this summer we can get our youngsters signed to long contracts with extremely high buy out clauses as well as adding a left back and centre back it will have been a great summer, business wise.

Interesting to see Dunk wasn't in Brightons squad for there friendly yesterday, looking at their forums it doesn't appear he is injured and the only reasons put forward are the rumours to Fulham are true or he was rested as they have another game on Tuesday, being rested pre season would be unusual but it will be interesting to see if he is missing on Tuesday night as well!!!!

Also Mcdonald of Wolves was left out of there squad yesterday and when asked about it afterwards Kenny Jackett was quoted as saying I left him out as he is unsettled at the moment

Latest from Sky Sports;

FULHAM INTERESTED IN TREBEL

Sky sources understand Fulham are interested in signing Standard Liege midfielder Adrien Trebel.

The 24-year-old will cost around £1.2m and has three years left on his current deal in Belgium.

Perhaps if Parker was leaving and bolstering the midfield, although I believe we have enough already?

Dunk and McDonald are of greater priority

... and Husband in ASAP ...

Don't know or understand the issue with Husband but there has been a dearth of rumours about any approach by us. However one story that was momentarily around a wee while back has resurfaced. According to today's Mail on Sunday we are planning a £1m bid for the Brentford (ex-Evertonian) 22yr old left back Jake Bidwell.

If memory serves he looked rather decent against us at the Cottage last season, although we made most of the Brentford lot look okay that day.

If only for Bidley's sake, we should sign him.

Looking at all the rumours links and supposed bids, it's apparent we are after three more players, a centre back, a left back and a defensive midfielder..... Wish we would hurry up and get them in
