Apart from plugging a 5 star hotel over there, what's the point in taking the same team that struggled last year to Turkey for pre season training? At a time like this cheaper training options over here would surely make more sense as long as you're not expected to pay upfront.

Because Acun’s all fart and no ****. Flashy **** with little substance, just like his mate Simon Jordan who was also a spendthrift.

There’s absolutely zero benefit to taking fans on these PR stunts for pre-season. There would be nothing lost if we went somewhere like Croatia/Slovenia/Austria instead of Turkey.

As a coach getting your players away from home and focused fully on football and each other is pretty valuable time. Even full time pros have distractions when at home.

He doesn't know any of them. This is a great chance to spend time with them and really understand what makes them tick. Not sure why supporters need to be there though.

You've got to feel for the new coach in all this. He's only been here 5 minutes and he's being dragged through this annual charade with no idea if and when and under what terms he can begin building a foundation...

This Season tops the previous pre-season screw ups by some distance!!

There’s still some excellent youth players coming through. Some fair better in an environment in a decent side. KLP was useless on loan anywhere, but was far better in our side. Not many got the opportunity at the minute, due to the amount of players we sign.
How do you know this?

It's been said for a long time that we have one of the largest catchment areas for clubs as we're the only professional club in our county. I haven't checked but the only other I can think of that has just the one club is Cornwall and their biggest club (Truro City) are in the National League, nor are they even professional. We need to maximise that. We shouldn't be losing out to Leeds, Middlesbrough and Sheffield clubs, or even York, Scunthorpe or Grimsby. I taught Charlie Hatton when he was in Year 4, who is now in the U18s of Grimsby Town. He was born and raised in Hull but was in Grimsby's set up because City weren't interested in him (too small). Brightest lad in his year, humble and will make it as a pro at some point. But lads like that passed us by in previous years because we had a rather dated way of bringing players in at that level.

I checked back to see which of the U21s who made it to the cup final against West Ham went pro (players in bold play for professional clubs now).

Rory Watson - York City
Brian Lenihan - retired
Josh Tymon - Swansea City
Max Clark - Gillingham
Harvey Rodgers - Grimsby Town

Ben Clappison - retired and works for the civil service (last played for Pickering Town)
Tyler Hamilton - without a club since leaving North Ferriby in 2021
Robbie McKenzie - Gillingham
Ben Hinchcliffe - Beverley Town
Greg Olley - Gateshead
Jarrod Bowen - West Ham and England

Johnny Saltmer - Last played for Buxton in 2021, now a model
Adam Curry - retired, now manages a plumbing company near Ennerdale
Will Annan - Bridlington Town
Dan Batty - York City
Josh Clackstone - Alfreton Town

So our academy does produce a fair amount of professionals, especially for Gillingham apparently.

We are in Yorkshire so we have other teams in our county. Norfolk only has Norwich City, Suffolk only has Ipswich Town. Kent only has Gillingham, Cumbria only has Carlisle. If you are declaring the East Riding is a complete county like Cornwall you will have to include Middlesbrough on the list as they are the only team in North Yorkshire. Our scouting has been crap for years going back to when my kids were playing junior football over 30 years ago. Leeds always had people about, saw scouts for Chelsea and Villa watching junior games but never City. Leeds have a number of lads from Brid and district with Leeds now. I know two of their parents, one a City fan and one a Sheff Utd fan. I asked them why their kids were at TWS as they both dislike them. Simple they said, Leeds were the only club that asked them along.

Tbf, it's cheaper to 'holiday' abroad in Turkey (other countries are available) than it is to holiday anywhere decent here in the UK. The flights are probably part of the sponsorship deal with Correndon. Quite possibly some agreement is in place with the hotel they use in Turkey, or it's a favour or mates rates at the very least. So, probably doesn't cost that much.
I do sort of agree though with at least part of the sentiment.
On the positive side, looking at the OWS team page for players we do have, it's a good chance for several players to stake their claim and show that they've progressed from last season (be that natural progression or getting over the Walter / Selles coaching) - Joseph, Burstow, Giles, Furlong, Drameh, Vaughan. And for Ajayi and Laalaoui to establish themselves. And for prospects like Tinsdale and TSF to break through We are incredibly light though and can't afford any injuries or more departures at this stage.
Interesting that Ajayi, Puerta, and Laalaoui are showing on there as ours. Hopefully that's the case in practice.
I'd rather we weren't playing the likes of top Turkish sides at this stage as I can't see how it helps anyone.

Obviously Acun/the club are in a really difficult position now due to the embargo and maybe can't win, but seeing this story that we're again going to put all our business on hold is very disappointing. This was the one thing we all said we needed to not do this summer, and now it's seemingly being quietly slipped out alongside everything else that yes, we'll be doing it again. So pre-season with no attackers again and then desperation signings on deadline day, meaning another season of toil and hardly any goals. Wonderful.

It certainly was true but not sure not sure how valid that critscism is nowadays. As I understand it, things have improved markedly in recent years. And the club is also far more involved in the community, engaging with kids, across Hull and the ER than ever it was.

I'm pretty sure you really don't mean that.

Our children's personal happiness is one of the most important things to us as parents. They may not always do what we might've done but they make their choices in life, good or bad and if that choice was earning £30k a week at Elland Rd,good luck to them.

They aren’t getting them on the books at City. Everyone was round my way were enthusing a couple of years ago about a young player with Polish parents. Guess who scouted him?

Isn't it still on the table dependant on the outcome of our appeal?

Problem being if someone else comes sniffing and offers him a comparable deal,he'll go for it.

He's not coming here for the love,we'll be offering him a funny money deal because we're desperate for a striker.
