Why do people believe there’s money in football?
There is, but it’s only at the top table, the Premier League (PL), in this country. Even then, it’s not guaranteed, as Leicester City demonstrated.
Some clubs have a plan: buy cheap, sell high. This strategy was successful for Brentford, but it didn’t happen overnight. Unfortunately, Acun attempted this approach and failed miserably.
Overall, more and more football clubs are trying to make their way to the PL, hoping to secure financial backing and reach the promised land before the money runs out. Some clubs have a fallback plan, continuing to fund the debt they create, but still without a guarantee of getting the money back. Others follow suit but ultimately realise they can’t do it and sell their team on to the next contender.
Football, as it was before the PL, is dead and long gone. Now, it’s just “owners” chasing a dream!
Do teams in League Two believe that one day they’ll be in the PL? They can dream, but realistically, it’s not going to happen. Those days of a small team getting to the PL through hard work are history.
Even teams like us have only slightly more of a chance than Grimsby Town, and that’s only because we’re in the Championship, which really means nothing!
