Teams Porto beat in that tournament: Marseilles, Partizan Belgrade, Manchester United, Lyon, Deportivo La Coruna, Monaco.
Teams Monaco beat in that tournament: AEK Athens, PSV Eindhoven, Deportivo La Coruna, Lokomotiv Moscow, Real Madrid, Chelsea
Monaco had the better results against the better opposition - especially when you consider both teams played Real Madrid to drastically different results: Porto lost and drew in the group stages (and the draw was a dead rubber match) whilst Monaco beat real over two legs in the quarter finals.
Even the UEFA Cup win isn't as marvelous as it first appears, given the teams they played: Polonia Warsaw, Austria Vienna, Lens, Denizlispor, Panathinaikos, Lazio, Celtic - they beat a better selection of teams to win it under Villas-Boas last season (including Sevilla, Villarreal, CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow), but few - if any - people are saying he's the man for the job.
Zero chance of this happening and any journo can write an article based on their own opinion to drive traffic to the newspapers website.
Mourinho wouldn't see us as a big enough club for him and that is a fact im afraid, he is used to working with world class players and being given a budget to basically sign whoever he wants, no wage caps or chairmain trying to do things on the cheap.
If jose was manager of spurs, and he wanted to sign three players, each costing between 20-30 million, whats levy going to say.."ok jose, you're the special one, we trust you, who cares about their wages and potential sell on fees, just go ahead and sign them and deliver us the league" lets be realistic here!

Not sure where all these 20-30m signings at Madrid by JM. Di Maria was 25m granted, but Ozil was a steal at 12m, Khedira 13m. Last summer saw them pay 55m for 5 players, again the lion share of that was 30m for Coentrao, but 4 players for 25m after that isn't bad. If you take Coentrao and Di Maria out, the rest are the kind of fees we pay for players anyway.
i bet their so called worst player earns more than our highest wage earner....thats where logic goes out of the window.

If mourinho feels that he has nothing left to prove at the highest level of club football, he may just be the kind of person to accept the challenge of taking a club like Spurs and proving he can do it the hard way too! Who knows? He's a complex character, and very much goes where he feels he is needed and wanted.
You cannot deny the fact he's gone round the 3 top European leagues...and conquered them!, toppling United, AC Milan, and now the great Barcelona to do it. Whats left after that? I would imagine Manchester would be his inclination, but he and his family enjoy life in London. I do doubt it, but as NSS above says, he likes a challenge, and if the 'sell' is right for a project, who knows.
He's a winner, through and through, so he could possibly bring you success or at least improvement. His name alone would attract big names, in theory.

Seems to me he likes to do things nobody else can. Let's face it, winning us a title certainly falls into that category. Also his "practical" brand of football maybe something he wants to shake off. The money seems to be the deal breaker. If we had a bigger stadium then who knows? But right now he is out of our price range.
I'm not so sure that personal compensation is necessarily at the top of his list anymore. He tends to go where he feels he can enhance his reputation. As I said earlier, if he feels that he has nothing left to prove at the biggest clubs anymore he could just be tempted by the possibilities that are obviously present in the current Spurs squad. I do agree with you about the money for players, however. Levy would have to open the club's wallet far wider as part of any deal.
So why not get him anyway and not just if Harry leaves? I don't think we will win the title with Harry in a million years and we ought to end the uncertainty. Say to Harry that his time is up and let's get a better coach.

As stated, it's the overall amount they spend on transfers each summer - the C25m they spent on di Maria or €30m they spent on Coentrao are the biggest figures, but they sign half a dozen players for around €10m every summer. In his two seasons at Real, Mourinho has spent an average of €65m on players, and recouped an average of €12.5m - Spurs can't afford to lose £30m a season on transfer fees at this time in the way that Chelsea, Inter and Real are able to do so, which - other than the fact he inflicts cynical, nasty anti-football on people - is the ultimate reason he is the wrong man for the job.
I would have to disagree with that. For me, Mourinho is undoubtedly a winner. It doesn't necessarily follow that he always employs negative tactics. Do I think he will do whatever is necessary to win? Yes, of course. Again, for me, Mourinho is a pragmatist. He will deploy whatever resources he has at the club he is with to try and get a result. That doesn't mean he is always negative. As any manager will tell you, they are in a results business. Mourinho is the ultimate result getter.
Look at the players that Real Madrid have at their disposal, and see how cynical and nasty they've become in the last couple of seasons - that, along with the ability to write off around £30m on transfers every season, is the real Mourinho effect.

Real have a current goal difference of +65, and have scored 89 goals in 27 matches - 12 more than Barca. Yes, Mourinho has employed negative tactics against Barca, but then so do many teams. Those figures, however, hardly support your allegations of totally negative tactics.
Cynical and nasty isn't negative - it's spending 90 minutes kicking the opponents off the pitch in a rota system, so one player gets booked after three or four have kicked them. It's consistently diving in games in order to gain an unfair advantage. It's squaring up to opponents and officials every chance they get.
Do people really want to see this at WHL just because he's a "winner", despite all the evidence that states he is someone only capable of buying success or, when at Inter, because the threat of Milan and Juventus was seriously truncated due to the Calciopoli scandal?
