Yeah, buy if Villa gets injured, we're back in the same situation as last year. Two strikers who, at times, couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo!.. Also, Defoe will be 31 in October, himself. Ade is no youngster, either. I still think we need at least one more, younger, more reliable , striker.
By "surprise" do you mean it's completely inevitable? I cannot see him pulling on a spurs shirt again, he offers nothing on the ball. no link up, no spreading play. he can get on the end of it and that is it. I see our front players as - Villa (assuming we get him) bale, defoe, ade, kane, lennon and Gylfi. surely no room for Demps?
If AVB has had a word with Ade and gets his arse in gear for next season then i see no reason for Dempsey. If not and with Defoe always blowing hot and cold we need someone to actually score. Despite his faults Dempsey got 10ish goals last year.
Statistically Dempsey was like our 2nd or 3rd best player last season. Yes there were many times when he was utter **** (understatement!) but he still popped up with some important goals and assists. I think AVB likes him too, played him over Sig and Holtby most of the time so to me it'd be a little surprising if AVB got rid. I wouldn't be fussed if he stayed or went, just as long as he wasn't starting over players I think are better. Handy player to have though I think.
Whichever way we look at it, we have a plethora of midfielders now and a number will have to go. Realistically we can't start the season with more than eight I would say Paulinho (when confirmed) & Sandro are nailed on first choices Dembele & Lennon are next in line Siggy & Holtby after that Townsend should be there or thereabouts (with Carroll our fall back should we not short term loan him out to another PL club) so Hudd, Parker, Livermore have one spot to play for As for Dempsey, as I see it he is in direct competition with Bale for the withdrawn role up front, as well as the others above for a midfield spot. Think he would definitely be classified as the weak link, unless we move on Lennon (which wouldn't surprise me, by the way) and so may be off back to the land of his forefathers
Grant Hall is expected to become another of our players to make the journey down the M4 to Swindon Town. The deal will be a season long loan. Expect an official announcement within 48 hours.
OS just read that Coulthirst is going on a season long loan to Leyton Orient. How do you think that will go?
Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro, Carroll, Sigurdsson, Holtby, Lennon, Townsend would be my 8. Leaves Huddlestone, Parker and Livermore as surplus.
Orient is a decent club with good people so he is going into a good environment. He progressed enormously last season and well deserved his professional contract. With Orient finishing last season well, they obviously are looking to get off to a good start, so initially I would expect him to be an attacking option rather than a regular starter.
OS Orient were my local club when I was living in London and they have always been a good launching pad for young players.
Agreed, a good club to send young players. I have a lot of time for the work Barry Hearn has done there and always enjoy my trips to Brisbane Road.
Yeah good move for the Shaq man if it goes ahead. Had an impressive season, no doubt his highlight was the hat-trick at La Masia. Orient's a good club for him too, was the platform for where Kane and Carroll got the attentions of our first team staff.
That is what I expect to happen. I see Villa playing more left sided and the Soldado type coming in to play central. great signing for swindon! anyone going to the game between the two clubs on the 19th? (i think it's the 19th) I read a rumour that Livermore might be going to Norwich on loan.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11675/8802318 Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund appear to be out of the race to sign Bernard after the Atletico Mineiro midfielder's agent admitted Porto were the only one of the trio not to have been put off by his asking price. Spurs have been linked with a couple of Brazilians this summer and appear set to sign Paulinho after he revealed on Monday that an agreement had been reached to take him to White Hart Lane. But it does not look as though he will be joined in London by Bernard, who was also a part of the winning Confederations Cup squad, as the 20-year-old's representative says talks have stalled. A switch to Champions League finalists Dortmund has also been ruled out, while Shakhtar Donetsk have yet to submit an offer after also being credited with an interest. Agent Adriano Spadoto told O Tempo: "The negotiations with Dortmund and Tottenham have cooled due to Bernard's high asking price, and he won't go to any of these clubs. "There is nothing from Shakhtar, they have made no offer." Porto now look to be in pole position to land Bernard's signature, especially as the BMG bank have connections with the Portuguese club and also Mineiro. "The agreement (with BMG) is a factor, so Porto are the most likely destination for Bernard," said Spadoto. "I believe that Bernard will leave Atletico Mineiro after the Copa Libertadores and the official announcement will be made by (Mineiro president) Alexandre Kalil."
The Swindon game is two weeks today Roo, the 16th. The Spurs ticket office is getting in a right muddle over this game, saying last week that tickets would be available only directly from Swindon. They have since repeated this information under a heading "Swindon ticket update". If you or anyone else, does intend going to this game, please be aware that tickets can only be bought from Spurs, and only by telephone and are available from 3 o' clock tomorrow afternoon. They are not and will not be, available from Swindon. .
cheers spurcat. I'm guessing you can buy tickets to sit in the home section from Swindon??!! Hang on, it is at The County Ground isn't it?!
