Fair do's Quentin mate. Lording it over another team (even your rivals) does eventually become somewhat boring. It's a bit like hitting someone when they are on the ground.

Not all fans see it that way, of course.

    Absolutely.
We left the boozer about 2.30 and joined most of the fans heading in before that interview.

Judging by the username changes and sigs some of you boys made to commemorate the 5 in a row I'd say top dog was something quite a few of your number would be all over right now.

It seems a few go through Kleenex at a rapid rate if there's a morsel of one upmanship to be had.

Personally, it's nothing more that a quick comeback when a Mackem drags up the 5 in a row or the big win a hundred or so years ago and sits in the category of banter at best.

It's 50 shades of **** in our region football wise and our turd smelt the least pungent in the end, nothing more.. Nothing less.

As people point out how bad Newcastle and Sunderland are, here's some cbrad facts for ya.
    1. Newcastle became the first 3 team to lose at least half of their games in 3 successive seasons.
    2. Despite this Sunderland have been so bad that in each of seasons they have finished below Newcastle.
    3. With Sunderland being this poor we've managed to lose 5 derbies in a row to them.
    4. Both teams (especially Newcastle) have been hammered countless times.

I think you might be correct in that.
There seems to be some of them getting a bit touchy about it, not that they'll admit it though <laugh>

Aye, either getting touchy about it or in some cases, conveniently ignoring it.

I mean, who wouldn't want to finish above your fierce rivals <whether you are both ****e or not>?

The Mackems doth protest too much.

Make no mistake they would be all over this board if they had finally secured a better league position than us and they know it.
It happens all over the UK when smaller clubs set their benchmarks against their bigger local rivals.

Ask the average Mackem in July what they want their club to achieve in the forthcoming season and most will say 'beat the mags' and 'finish higher than the mags'.

    Speaks for itself.

Yet another season where we can have a laugh about the fact that, over 38 games we were the better side even when we were utter crap.

I had a £50 bet with a sunderland fan I know who wagered they would finish above us this season.

    Doesn't matter, huh?

A Mackem neighbour in my block kept playing 'who let the dogs out' after their midweek win when he thought they were a shoe in.

He's not bothered of course no siree.

Wouldn't like it if they finished above us, but then I don't like the fact that 14 teams finished higher than us this season.

I'm sure we'd all like to finish top of the pile. Sadly, we've got to put up with what we are given.
