Let me know which restaurant you choose and I'll bring my guitar and serenade you at your table.

The Blue Coyote is gone...forget what its called now, but it had an absolutely ridiculous name

EDIT: Just looked it up, the place is called Hoochie Coochie now; with a name like that it deserves to fail miserably

As long as you're not the old guy wailing by the Millennium Bridge; can't stand him.

There aren't that many posh restaurants in Newcastle these days, most of them have went down the cheap and cheerful route to keep up with the competition from the chains. Las Igunas on Grey Street is spot on as mentioned but its just a chain and isn't particularly classy. If you're thinking Italian, then I would suggest Spago in Jesmond, thats probs the best Italian restaurant I've been to in Newcastle and I eat out A LOT! For Indian I would suggest Sachins behind Central Station, its really good but its quite pricey. For Chinese, I've heard good things about King Neptune but I don't really like that kind of scran so I give Chinatown a wide berth personally! The Baltic restaurant is a load of crap from my experience and its ridiculously overpriced. The Fishermans Lodge in Jesmond is good but it'll cost you a few quid!

Jesmond Dene House if you're really treating her. The food is top notch & they bring you out little tasters/treats between courses, a real dining experience start to finish. Looks pricey but well worth it if you're pushing the boat out & afterwards you'll realise it's actually good value considering the quality of it all. Nowhere else comes close for me. We got married there so had a few tasting sessions in the run up to it.

In the town centre I'd recommend Noosh. Incredible value for money for quality food.

I took my missus to a greek restaurant, around the Bigg Market, a few years ago. Can't remember the name, though.

Like a lot of tavernas, it was not the classiest of places, but quite nice and romantic, with candles in bottles on the tables, and nice bazouki music in the background.

Dose anyone know the name of it, and is it still there?

Best restraunt I've been to in NE is Rockliffe Hall (just near Darlo, so a bit out of your way) but Micheline star food and you can choose a variety of set menu's (depending on your budget). The *****lian restraunt in Newcastle (not sure of the name) is class as well but its less romantic despite being a proper entertaining night!

Cafe 21 behind the law courts is really special. Fantastic menu, locally sourced produce and a Michelin star to boot. Best restaurant on the quayside bar none, I love it. If you like indian food then try Rasa. It's right next to the slightly more famous Vujon but is actually superior.

Seriously though, you won't be disappointed at Cafe 21. It waas almost on par with Gordon Ramsay's at Claridges in London.
