He’s spent 400m for arguments sake. A lot more than any other manager in the history of the club.

He’s also had the highest ever wage bill to work with.

Cut them in half and roast them, they get a nice sweet flavour when you roast them. Go well with roast parsnips, don't like carrots normally but roasting works.

Technically none as he's not in charge of transfers. And (as many have pointed out regarding Hall) he may not actually like / agree with all of the deals that have been done. So it's not like he ran to the sweet shop with extra pocket money to have a personal spending spree.

Now if the argument is about how much net spend has the club had since he arrived, then it's around £390m, minus whatever we got back for Wood, Shelvey, Maxi etc. (all appear to be 'undisclosed').

So not even the £400m now being quoted above. And not even close to the biggest spending clubs in that same period.

Yes, yes, I get the main point, the squad has been improved. Thank goodness.
But the facts are not accurate and it's all relative when you compare us to other teams.

I'm not arguing these points. Every manager is probably in the same boat with transfer fees and wages being what they are.

But pound for pound his signings have been good. If we take out Tonali and Barnes just now, (who could come good I hope). Yet to see Barnes do much other than score so there's another where I'm not blindly following.

So it's still lots of money.. I bet Newcastle are one of the top spenders in that period. I just dont think Newcastle are over achieving based on these numbers. Maybe about right, but the season end will tell us more.

I bet you can find varying figures for all clubs everywhere so it'll only ever be a case of picking which you thinks right or suits a narrative.

I used same as GG did but obviously todays exchange rates. Could be a difference there obviously. I also excluded Hall's £30m fee as that's not been paid yet.

The most concerning thing is that despite this spend the 11 is reduced to the laden bones of Mike Ashley's reign.

It's this I'm focusing on because if it isn't just luck then throwing more and more money at it won't plug the hole.

It will eventually in my view. I think the main problems is like you say, once you remove the first 11, the quality in the back up drops massively.

That's why I'm saying it will take another 4 or 5 transfer windows before everything's all guns blazing.

Definitely the case, but if they keep getting fatigued and injuries on this scale or even half of it then it'll take longer.

I am convinced that Howes training and intense philosophy is a problem and I might be right and I could be wrong.

    Time will answer these questions.

I seen something other day where Eddie Howe said 2 hours on the grass was too long for training sessions. Its on youtube Pick a pro with him and Tindall (canny watch to be fair) Doesn't suggest their being over worked to me.

I also know earlier in the season they weren't even training on the grass due to number of games. Again straight from the horses mouth.

Now is there an argument that the tactic is too demanding? - quite possibly.
Is there an argument players have been rushed back too quick? - Quite possibly.
Is there an argument players have had to play through injury? - Quite possibly.

The argument or point being made is much more simple. It's that Newcastle have spent alot of money and are not doing particularly well or over achieving.

What's happened is people have started claiming the numbers are wrong and the numbers are always going to be wrong but the point remains.

Newcastle really just aren't over achieving.... the end of the season could see them under achieve but 8th I'm guessing is probably about right.
