Suarez is a better player than Bale. Spurs finished 4th and 5th with Bale, so its 2-3 places at best! And there is no question that one player can make a massive difference, especially when at the very, very top, it all about fine margins. Rather than saying Rodgers used Suarez more effectively than Redknapp used Bale, you could say that Suarez inspired his teammates much more than Bale? No question a top player will win matches by themselves by pulling out some magic, both Suarez and Bale did this, but some inspire their teammates more than others, I would say Suarez does this? Suarez also created much more than Bale did, Bale could produce individual moments of brilliance, Suarez could do the same, but also create much more for the team.

Suarez on his own was worth 4 or 5 places to us. That much is clear now.....and that's with us splashing out over £100m on new recruits. Many said it at the beginning of the season...did our starting 11 improve at all with all that money gone? No, it regressed....badly. It might have helped if we'd bought another striker capable of 50% of what he delivered but we didn't. Ultimately, BR and the management team at Liverpool have failed badly and are now not in the CL position to actually buy the quality we badly need!

Lallana at 26 was never worth £25m and Lovren was never worth £20m. £45m for a pair of players who'd had 1 decent season a piece in the PL, with the side who finished 8th. It was awful business.

Oh and for every Coutinho and Can, there's been an Assaidi, an Aspas, a Borini, a Balotelli, a Sahin and an Alberto..............

Under Rafa the policy was to buy many hopefuls and Rafa wanted to buy expensive quality.

I don't think Rodgers has that limitation, even if he did he could have got better players from Europe, or equal players for half the cost of Lovren and Lallana. Can Sakho Cout, they prove that point, all three cost in total what, about the same as Lallana, so what made him go for expensive average PL players last summer? That's what I am wondering.

If Lallana was 20 and showing what he was last season then you'd think this lad has potential, but he's 26, this is his level.

The thing about Suarez is he made so many of his own goals, not really something the manager can take credit for.

Suarez is one of the best strikers in the world, arguable the best even, Brod can't take credit for that. Just look at what he did against psg when Barca were mostly preferring to give the ball to Messi, Suarez said **** that, got the ball and beat players and made the goals himself.

He's a goal machine, International, dutch league, PL, and now Spain. Mad **** but he's a magician

At the very top, it is mostly about that player who makes the difference. Look at Chelsea, they have Hazard. City, had Aguero. Arsenal has Sanchez and we had suarez. Coutinho is not Suarez. Not to recognise that is to bury one's head in the sand. But in addition to that, Suarez (compared to the others I've listed here) made other players play better. Gerrard and Sterling played better, our defence leaked goals but that that was masked by his goals.

Overpaying for a star player is acceptable like someone said but not for average or less than average players.

I could almost compare our situation to F1. The players/the team is the car and the manager the driver. You need both to be of high standard to win. The car might have something special though tweaking and new technology but you still need a decent enough driver to win. No point for McClaren having the very best car if you put Clarkson in as the driver. And having hamilton takes you nowhere if the car is the equivalent of an F3. Hamilton is good but he needs to have the right vehicle.

For me, and I have said it many times now, Rodgers seemed to have been over promoted above his logical position and he seems to confirm this every time he opens his mouth. . LFC is a huge club and realistically we would want to employ one of the top "decent" managers available and also revamp the team as the players recruited (markovic, Balo, moreno, Borini, Lambert, Lovren, Sturridge (injury prone) ) are simply not good enough. With those players, whoever is the manager, we'll only go so far and that's it. Cup runs if we are lucky and may hovering around 5th and 7th.

I cannot see any hope for next season unless there is a massive investment (gamble) on the part of the owners. Because not doing anything is a recipe for a downward spiral from which we will take years to recover.

Possibly, the basis of a good squad is there and it is young. Will they improve under Rodgers? Will he get rid of the right players? Will he bring the right players in?

The same questions apply to any new manager and there's always a risk that this new person will also get it wrong.

I will understand the decision to let Rodgers go if Klopp (I'm a little concerned here but understand why he would be a popular choice) or Simeone (My choice) wanted to come to us but outside of this I would be very concerned with lets say a Klinsman or someone similar.

Brod has done a decent job. Lets not mince words, he's made mistakes but unlike others, he can't cover for the mistakes by buying 30m to 60m players on 250k a week the following season or in Jan. Look at what happened Pellegrini with FFP, couldn't cover for some dodgy signings and it cost him, normally Cty would have spent big to address that.

Imagine what the media clowns would be printing if Brod signed Falcao...

Pellegini can make mistakes, he's got 30m players who can't get in the team. Chelsea signed Caudrado, he can't get in the team.
We do not have that luxury, if Lallana who cost as much as Caudrado is a bust, or Markovic, we suffer, we are suffering, while Chelsea can sign Torres for 50m and go ah **** he's ****e and go get someone else.

So there is a difference.

I am not fickle, I am not decided. I am concerned about his transfers not about his football, every manager makes a balls of it, we did v Villa, but lets be honest, so did van Gaal v Chelsea, possession my arse, he failed to break down Chelsea when other teams with far less resources have done so but that was just one game, you move on.

This summer is CRUCIAL! because of squad erosion and failed signings. We need to bite the bullet and offload the failures namely Lovren and Balo and rid ourselves of Johnson, replace Gerrard(henderson is not the answer) and buy a quality defender to allow Can to move into midfield with lucas\allen and find a striker becaue Studge god bless the poor ****, is terribly injury prone.

Do I trust Brod to sort it with money, no I don't. That is the crux of my whole point, we are in a place now where the signings we make from this point on are absolutely crucial to our progression and if Brod screws it up in the summer, it is going to take us 3 years to recover, AL LEAST!

I agree! Even in his one season under Kenny, he was superb without the end product. You could see the anguish on his face, and I have never seen a player or a team be so unlucky over the course of a season. There was not a whole lot wrong with the team, or with Suarez himself, the player was already there! Right now I would rate Suarez has at least the second best player in the world, and he will only improve his reputation playing for Barca, in 12 months he will be regarded as the best player in the world.

Brendan Rodgers bought 24 players for £211,550,000

There it is in all its glory. 3 players (Sturridge, Coutinho, Can) who have proved to be good buys and don't have any grey areas around them or question marks over them. And even with Sturridge you could bring up his lack of fitness and the 'fragile handle with care' sticker we didn't see or wasn't on the box when we bought him. Plus Can isn't even playing in his preferred / true position. So that leaves 1 signing bought who has performed well and functioned as needed.

I would also include Sakho but for the time he took to come into any sort of form £15,000,000 is really steep

Despite his poor season which continued with a blank against Chelsea at the weekend, Liverpool are thought to be keen on bringing him to Merseyside. With Raheem Sterling's future uncertain, Daniel Sturridge's injury concerns ongoing, Rickie Lambert making no impact and Mario Balotelli's struggles, the Reds are in desperate need of reinforcements in the summer and believe Falcao could be the answer.
