Sounds like an argument for a better transfer policy not a new manager. Only about 2% of the season is transfers.

sterling is the one i feel.

I don't feel necessarally anyone else might have got a go under another manager as they would nto ahve signed guff like allend and borini for a combined 26mil..

Kenny gave flanagan one or two chances.

rodgers only gave him a go due to injuries but the lad took his chance but he did a smuch as he could.

    Rodgers gave wisdom a go.

Gave teixteria a small go and put him on laon, he gave susao a go. the lad should never have ran off on loan with a whine about playing cos frankly with moses around that year he's have got some games.

and so forth.. lads like say sinclair or brannagan or ojo just getting tastes on the bench.. you can see they are not ready but at least it makes the more ready on day.

then again... look at villa yesterday grealish was on the fringes under lambert who was under pressure. the big thing about a NEW manager is pressure is off for a period and they can make changes

next year under rodgers its win or bust so what can he do with bad on telly and the like? better a bnew man does the job.

Has Rodgers really adapted? To me yesterday, the players looked confused, lacked shape, cohesion and belief. It's not the first time this season. So no, not knee jerk....more a gradual realisation that BR is not up to the job at nearly the end of the season.

Lovren is no good. I agree. But Ballo, Markovic, Lallana, Borini, Lambert et al have also been massive misses....that's not to mention the dross that he bought and moved on quickly......we did a spurs and it's painfully obvious now. It's no good whinging that we actually wanted another player but he wouldn't come!! Fact is that you could give BR another £100m and he'd still blow it on dross....especially now there's no CL football!

    1. Suarez only missed 5 league games because of his ban last season #myth

    2. It depends just how good they are, Maradona took Napoli to the title virtually single handedly. His 31 league goals and umpteen assists were a huge part of what you achieved last season, only a fool would deny it. His departure has left a chasm at your club.

    3. So he's improved every player? Really? What about Assaidi, Borini, Aspas, Lovren, Moreno, Mingnolet, Johnson, Sakho, Allen, Lallana, Lambert and Balotelli? Or couldn't he be arsed with them? What utter tripe.

but didn't he refuse a DOF and defensive coach? <whistle>

Plus those **** players play in games and cost us points so.. really that 2% is completely false.

His failure to address the problem positions has been epic and those positions still need to be filled PLUS we have long time regualrs who are on the way out anyway meaning, we have TOO many players that need to be shipped

So who do we give the money to then in the summer? The kit lady?

Yet another year of no CL means even more dimishing attractiveness of the club to good players.

It is hardly knee jerk nearly 3 years down the track; with no cup success and a squad arguably worse than when he took over as well as a shed load of money spent!

I will see you City (although it worked last season), and raise you RVP at both Arsenal and Man Utd, and to some extent Hazard at Chelsea. Top quality players can mean the difference on 2-3 places in the League, and when you are around the top 4-5 that is huge! Look at what Bale did for Spurs.

Or maybe the next manager will come in and say the player he wants is 28 and £35m and FSG say what's the younger, cheaper version and **** all changes except now the manager spends 8 months working out how to best handle the 20 other players in his squad.

I think they are gems in the context of where Southampton are? Basically been instrumental in Walcott, Bale, Shaw etc... and even if you don't particularly rate them as players, they have brought an incredible amount of funds in to the club.

The only reason I am even talking about this now is because the season is all but over, I've been pretty quiet on Brod and supportive all season. I've defended him and MITO can testify to that.

Agreed. Suarez was head and shoulders the best player in the league last year. The space he creates for others is unbelievable and only really truly apparent when you watch a game from the stands and not the TV. He had a hand in over 50% of our goals last year in Goals and assists only.....I don't like to admit it (who would?) but he was THE driving force behind everything good last year and BR fooked it up with god awful tactics at critical times.

BR got lucky when he inherited him.

    Lallana was £25m and 26, Lambert £4m and 32, so there's £29m of your £35m..............

Maybe he just bought a load of over priced ****, the dem Yanks have backed him to the tune of over £200m in 2 1/2 years, trying to shift the blame onto them for his awful transfer history at Anfield is taking the piss.

You're both right. BR has mostly bought a load of over-priced **** BUT the transfer policy laid out by FSG (we think) sets out that we want to buy potential gems.....which clearly will cost money. Perhaps it's BR's strategy and not just FSG's. My feelings are clear on here but it's fair to say that whatever formula they are using to value players.....it's not working that well. The exceptions are Sturridge (when fit), Coutinho and Can imo.

26m was way too much for Lallana, 20m on Lovren was it, ffs<doh> markovic 20m? way too much for him too.
The portuguese have been taking the PL for a ride, City paid 30m for Mangala <doh>

    Disasterous spending

As a strategy there's nothing wrong with looking to primarily buy younger players who'll both improve and have a strong resale value should you choose to cash in a few years later.

However, the key is to buy the right ones, and that's where it's failed at Anfield.

That's not the owners fault, that's down to those who they entrusted to spend the cash, and Rodgers must shoulder his fair share of the blame.

Then we should have thrown 30m at PSV for Depay not 26m on Lallana
